Prior to starting his own firm, Mr. Lea had the fortunate opportunity to work under Alan Maestas for three years. While working as an associate for Mr. Maestas his primary focuses were in the areas of motions practice and litigation. He took on the primary responsibility of preparing major felony cases for trial. Since then, he has expanded his areas of knowledge into various contract, property, domestic, corporate, and environmental issues. Currently, Mr. Lea sits on the Planning and Zoning Commission for the Town of Taos.. Before Taos, Mr. Lea was an attorney in Washington, D.C. with a corporate antitrust law firm. There, Mr. Lea worked on one major antitrust matter for two years before moving on to Taos for a more comprehensive interaction with law.. Mr. Lea attended Marquette University Law School in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. In law school, he was the Secretary of the Sports Law Society. His focuses were a wide variety. In addition to fulfilling the criteria for a Sports Law Certificate, Mr. Lea had interests in both Tax Law and International Law. Throughout his law school career he did two summer studies, one at Oxford University, and the other in Madrid, Spain through the College of William and Mary. Mr. Lea graduated from law school in 2004.. Mr. Lea attended Grinnell College in Grinnell, Iowa on a four-year academic scholarship. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics in 2001. At Grinnell, Mr. Lea was a four-year starter in baseball and soccer.. Since coming to New Mexico in 2006, Mr. Lea is now the President of the Taos Youth Soccer League, a league consisting of over 600 kids from the local area. He has spent a great deal of time dedicating himself to ensuring that the league runs smoothly. His major focus presently is to push the school district, town, and county to build recreational fields for the children of this community. Mr. Lea has joined several other concerned citizens in forming the Taos Sports Alliance to ensure that these facilities are built quickly and effectively. Mr. Lea was also nominated by the local bar, and is presently serving on the Board of Directors for New Mexico Legal Aid, a non-profit organization dedicated to ensuring that indigent clients can receive quality civil legal services.
