Kerry M. Griggs is a Senior Member in the Phoenix office of The Cavanagh Law Firm, P.A., and previously served as Chairman of the firm’s Board of Directors. He has also served as the firm’s general counsel and risk manager. Kerry attended Washington University School of Law in St. Louis, Missouri, and received his J.D. in 1995, graduating in the top 15% of his class. Kerry has been honored as a “Southwest Super Lawyer” and has been named as a “Top Attorney in Arizona” by Phoenix Magazine. He has also been honored among the “Top Attorneys in the Southwest” and “America’s Most Honored Professionals.”. Kerry’s practice focuses on commercial litigation and first party insurance disputes. His specialties include real estate litigation, products liability, consumer product warranties, insurance coverage, insurance special investigations, and administrative practice. He has taken numerous cases through jury trials, arbitrations and bench trials.. Kerry has been lead counsel in numerous State and Federal District Court real estate and product-related law suits. Kerry regularly advises insurance companies on first party coverage matters and coordinates coverage and special investigations, including examinations under oath and arson investigations. He has served as an appraiser in a number of first party insurance losses.. Kerry has been a guest lecturer for the Phoenix Association of Realtors and other local professional real estate organizations, addressing various risk management topics key to managing real estate brokerages. He has represented numerous real estate agents and brokers in civil litigation and in general risk-management matters.. Kerry has made numerous presentations to professional audiences concerning product liability law. He recently authored a paper and lectured in Toronto and Chicago concerning indemnity considerations in U.S. product liability litigation. Kerry acted as a Regional Editor for an ABA publication, Bad Faith and Punitive Damages, Annotations to First-Party Insurance Cases, Statutes and Regulations, 2d ed., (American Bar Association 2000). He is a regular guest lecturer for the International Association of Arson Investigators, addressing the appropriate investigation and litigation of civil arson cases, including the avoidance of excess exposure. Kerry is very well-versed in current issues facing both first-party and third-party insurance carriers doing business in the State of Arizona.. Kerry is a member of the American Bar Association, Arizona Bar Association, Maricopa County Bar Association, Arizona Association of Defense Counsel and The Harmonie Group. His personal interests include off-road motor sports, metal and machine work, SCUBA diving, and recreational target shooting.
