In 2011, Mark expanded his field of practice into health care law when he accepted a position with the Illinois Department of Public Health as Associate General Counsel. He joined a small team of lawyers who were charged with litigating and regulating every nursing home and extended care facility in the state. Mark also handled several department initiatives including compliance with rules pertaining to swimming pool drainage systems, regulation of synthetic cannabis and Freedom of Information Act compliance. He conducted numerous administrative hearings, negotiated effective settlements between the state and corporations and provided valuable legal advice to clients.. Eventually Mark began a solo practice in 2012 to serve the community and provide quality legal counsel to individuals of modest means. His primary area of practice was representing clients accused of criminal offenses, but he also represented individuals in civil defense, administrative hearing and transactional matters. As a private practitioner, Mark added to his trial advocacy experience through numerous bench and jury trials..
