Nathan Ohler began his legal career in private practice in Boise, specializing in civil defense litigation involving contractual disputes, government entities, federal claims and construction matters. Lisa brings almost a decade of criminal defense litigation experience to the firm’s team.  She has spent the much of her career in a courtroom and advocates for and works to protect her client’s constitutional rights.  Lisa has partnered with Sean, a member of our team, on several complex criminal defense cases and teamed with Alexandria, another firm member, to work on challenging family law issues and involved family law legal proceedings.. After law school Lisa went into private practice in southern Idaho; while with her firm, Lisa practiced criminal defense law.  After a couple of years, she strategically chose to expand her legal acumen, and in 2009 Lisa became a prosecutor in North Idaho.  However, as a serious advocate for due process rights, Lisa returned to criminal defense work and became a public defender for a well-regarded public defender’s offices in the State of Idaho, the Kootenai County Public Defender’s Office.  This position required Lisa to spend an extensive amount of time in a courtroom trying both   misdemeanor and felony cases; thus, the courtroom has become a comfortable arena for her while also exponentially increasing her litigation skills.. Jillian Caires is a native of Coeur d’Alene, Idaho where she graduated from Lake City High School in 2004.  Jillian attended Washington State University, graduating in 2006 with a bachelor’s degree in political science. In 2010, Jillian began law school at Gonzaga University School of Law. Jillian earned her Juris Doctorate degree from Gonzaga in 2012, magna cum laude. In law school Jillian was a member of the Mugel National Tax Moot Court Team and the Gonzaga Journal of International Law; Jillian was awarded the top grade in Legal Research and Writing, Estate Planning, Community Property, Criminal Procedure, and Animal Law.. Following law school, Jillian served two years serving as law clerk to the Honorable Benjamin Simpson, District Judge, First Judicial District of the State of Idaho. I set up my law practice in Coeur d' Alene, Idaho, in 1980 and have been practicing in Coeur d' Alene since 1980.  I have handled numerous appeals to the Idaho Supreme Court and to the  IdahoCourt of Appeals.  I was appointed to serve on the Idaho Appellate Rulles Committee and also to the Idaho Criminal Rules Committee.  I have been handling crininal cases since I started my practice in 1980,  including DUI and BUI  cases, drug cases, battery cases, etc..

I began my legal career in the City of Santa Ana’s Civil Ligation Division before entering private practice in Newport Beach, California.  In 2002 Notre Dame Law School hired me as an Assistant Director to design public interest law programs for its students and alumni; this position allowed me to work extensively and closely with national law firms, other law schools, and legal service organizations throughout the entire country.. However, in 2005 an opportunity arose that allowed me to temporarily venture down another path.  I was invited to help establish a non-profit organization that managed the architectural design and building of schools and churches in South America--this opportunity was greatly rewarding and energizing but I missed the law.  So, after this non-profit organization was able to self-sustain, I returned to my legal roots.. In 2007 the Idaho Supreme Court hired me to manage all five of its First Judicial District Court Assistance Offices, an office geared towards providing family law information/services for self-represented litigants entering the court system.  In this role I was honored to furnish guidance to the court, bar constituents and outside agencies regarding the engagement between the judicial system and self-represented litigants.  In early 2013 private practice came calling and I returned to the practice of law.. Today the majority of my practice is geared towards family law.  I and my firm understand that the handling of every case is a partnership with our client and we, therefore, make a great effort to ensure our clients receive services based upon their unique situation and goals.  Through this commitment we strive to find resolution so our clients may move forward with greater resolve.
