The bulk of his practice is family and personal injury; however, with 30 years of legal experience, he has litigated cases in the following areas: bankruptcy, collection, contract, criminal, domestic, general commercial, insurance bad faith, personal injury, securities, landlord/tenant, civil defense and estate litigation. He has successfully argued appellate cases before the Colorado Supreme Court and Court of Appeals.
- Advise high net worth (HNW) and ultra high net worth (UHNW) clients regarding the creation, structure, and operation of revocable and multi-generational trusts, family-owned and closely-held business entities, charitable entities (including split-interest charitable trusts, private foundations, private operating foundations, donor-advised funds, etc.), and family office structures.- Advise HNW and UNHW clients regarding the structure of gifts, sales, and other advanced planning techniques (e.g., GRATs, CLATs/CRUTs, sales to grantor trusts, QPRTs, net gifts, leveraged transfers, etc.) to minimize gift, estate, generation-skipping transfer (GST), and income taxes. - Advise individuals and entities regarding corporate and partnership taxation matters related to mergers, acquisitions, recapitalization activities, purchases, sales, loans, and related transactions.- Advise HNW and UNHW clients with respect to family business succession planning, including the implementation of redemption and cross-purchase buy/sell agreements.- Administer decedents' estates, including probate matters, asset transfers, and post-mortem estate planning (e.g., disclaimers). - Advise HNW and UNHW international clients regarding cross-border planning and international tax treaties.- Represent clients in trust and estate litigation.- Represent clients before the IRS with respect to gift, estate, and income tax audits, appeals, and litigation.
