I represent people injured at the fault of others including, but not limited to car accidents. I also represent criminal defense clients and family law clients. I represent people in the State of Indiana, Elkhart, Kosciusko, Noble, Lagrange, Marshall, St. Joseph, Whitley, and Steuben county. I was born and raised in Goshen, Indiana. I am the 5th generation of Mehl Attorneys. I enjoy helping people and always strive to overdeliver.

I hail from Long Island. I met my future wife, Maria, in the corridors of Sachem High School. Later, after spending four years at Rutgers—where I earned my undergraduate degree and a varsity letter as a member of the Heavyweight Crew—Maria and I moved to South Bend so I could attend law school at Notre Dame. Indiana’s been our home ever since.. During my time at Notre Dame, I worked at the Notre Dame Legal Aid Clinic, became a big brother for Big Brothers Big Sisters, won the American Bar Association Negotiation Award, and Maria had the first of our three children.. After joining Jones Obenchain, LLP in 1998, I became a partner in 2003. I'm a saavy commercial and business litigator with experience in state, federal, and appellate courts. I represent individuals and businesses in contract disputes, employment matters, tort claims, and insurance-coverage disputes. My well-known clients have included the likes of American Family Mutual Insurance Company, GEICO, Meridian Title Corporation, the State of Indiana, the Indiana Department of Corrections, and the Indiana Department of Transportation.. But my day doesn’t end when the courthouse closes. I served for many years on the Boards of Directors for the St. Joseph County’s Big Brothers Big Sisters and the Leadership South Bend/Mishawaka programs. I remain involved with the latter’s alumni association committee, and was recently elected to serve as a commissioner on the 2013-2014 Michiana High School Hockey League board.. Because of my professional accomplishments and volunteer work, the Tribune Business Weekly recognized me as a “Rising Star” in the local business community. I was later selected for inclusion in the inaugural Michiana Forty Under 40 Class. Forty Under 40 is a collaborative project involving the regional Chambers of Commerce, Elkhart Truth, South Bend Tribune, Bethel College, and a number of major employers intended to recognize and honor 40 young professionals from north-central Indiana for their contribution and accomplishments in the workplace and the community.. Since 2011, I've been putting my litigation experience to good use by training a new generation of lawyers. I'm now an assistant adjunct professor of law at Notre Dame, where I teach in the deposition skills course, which is part of the university’s trial-advocacy curriculum. I also coached an all-freshmen mock-trial team from John Adams High School to a 21st-place finish in a statewide competition.
