With diligence and an ability to bring forth the hard truths when needed, Jason Osbourn approaches each case with an open mind and eagerness to resolve ambiguities. Before coming to Zausmer, Jason worked at an insurance defense boutique firm, where he primarily worked in no-fault litigation. Jason quickly developed a reputation as an adept and persuasive writer after obtaining highly favorable results from numerous pleadings he drafted. These included a motion for summary dismissal of tort claims brought against his clients for assault and battery, conspiracy, and negligence which was granted after the Court agreed that there was no genuine issue of material fact that Jason’s clients were protected from such claims on the grounds of self-defense. In another action in which the Plaintiff claimed entitlement to PIP benefits valued at more than $150,000, he achieved a case evaluation award of just $937.. Jason is driven to positively impact his community by helping and advocating for those in need. He attended Northern Michigan University, where he explored his interest in politics as a Student Government Representative. He graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice and worked for the Marquette County Sheriff’s Office as a Corrections Deputy for several years. The West Michigan Defense Team is a high powered Criminal Defense firm located in downtown Grand Rapids, Michigan. Attorney Jason Jansma is a senior partner with the firm.
The sole focus of my legal practice is criminal defense at the state and federal level. I don't dabble in any other areas of the law. Similar to other professions, lawyers are--or should be--very focused in what they do. There's just too much to know in any one area of the law. To be effective is not to provide a broad array of legal services but, rather, be very particular in your field. My expertise lies in criminal defense.. Being accused of or charged with a crime, understandably, can feel like a life-altering event. The first steps you take after you receive a call from a detective seeking to ask questions or are after you've been charged with a crime, will have an incredible impact on your future. What may intuitively feel like the "right" thing to do is often, for example: explaining your side of things, surprisingly, is often the wrong thing to do legally. So if you're called or charged: I can help. I use a very communicative (you'll be able to get a hold of me) and thorough approach to every case I handle. You'll always know and understand what is going on in your case, and why we are doing what we're doing; you'll feel engaged in the process rather than feeling like the legal process is simply taking place around you.. Consultations are always free and confidential. I can be contacted directly on my phone.

The financial crisis of the past few years has unleashed a staggering number of bankruptcies and foreclosures nationwide, and unfortunately Michigan seems to have been at the center of the storm. Families and small businesses all over West Michigan have been hurt, and that is where Jeffrey Mapes steps in.. An experienced bankruptcy attorney and founder of Mapes Debt solutions, he is on a mission to help turn peoples financial situations from hopeless to hopeful. This mission is especially difficult given that places like Grand Rapids, Kalamazoo, and Lansing have been devastated by foreclosures and job losses. Amid the storm, Jeff offers hope and real relief to people struggling, helping them to avoid losses and help themselves into a better financial future.. "I understand and empathize with my clients because I've been through tough times. I opened my own office five years ago without any staff, without any clients, and without any money. I had just gotten married and I didn't know if I would even make enough money at my new office to pay next month's rent. I know how the fear can paralyze people and cloud their judgment, that is why I love being able to step in, offer advice and help people keep their home, their money, and their sanity.". Jeffrey's vision is formed by his own financially precarious childhood in Grand Rapids. "I grew up the poor kid of a single mother who worked two full time jobs in order to put food on the table. We never had much, and I saw the toll the stress took on my mother," he recalls "I remember learning early on that if I wanted anything I had to earn it, my sister and I had to get jobs to help make ends meet. I knew when I grew up I wanted a career that would allow me to provide for my family, and help others provide for theirs.". That desire led Jeffrey to Kalamazoo College where he graduated with a Bachelor's of Arts degree in History, followed by a Juris Doctorate degree with Honors from Michigan State University College of Law in East Lansing. The combination of a liberal arts education which stressed the importance of thought, and the business like legal education has helped Jeffrey to fulfill her personal and professional goals. "Kalamazoo College instilled a love of learning in me, this love has made me one of the best bankruptcy attorneys in Grand Rapids, Lansing, or Kalamazoo because I never stop learning and never stop asking questions.". Jeffrey's experience and expertise in consumer bankruptcy – specifically chapters 7 and 13 – makes all the difference. "Our firm has shown time and time again that our dedication to the client does not end when their case does. Our job isn't done until we have done everything possible to help clients lead a financially successful life," he explains. "I love seeing my clients, but I know I am most successful if I never need to see them again. If my clients exit bankruptcy with a better understanding of their finances, what mistakes they made, and how they can avoid them, then they will be set for a bright future." In fact Mapes Debt solutions requires all clients to undergo credit counseling and financial education courses. "It makes no sense if our clients leave without knowing how to properly budget, or why a high interest rate is a terrible idea. Even if our clients have questions about budgeting several years after the fact, we will meet with them and go over their budget with them for free, to see how we can help them.. Being a busy bankruptcy lawyer in the worst recession in decades doesn't leave a lot of free time, but Jeffrey makes sure that he is not so busy making a living that he forgets to make a life. Jeffrey's hectic schedule doesn't prevent him from engaging in his eclectic and versatile hobbies including golfing, playing guitar, pistol shooting, and cooking. "I love my job, but on August 17, 2012 I got the best job in the world when I became a father. Hiring my new associate attorney Elizabeth has allowed me to take more time and spend it with my son Isaac and wife Katherine. I think being a father and husband makes me a better attorney because no matter how stressed I am, coming home to a family that loves me allows me to start each day clear of mind and focused."
The decision to file for Bankruptcy is difficult for many people. The process can be emotional and overwhelming. I started doing bankruptcy work because it feels good to help people. While I have worked in many area's of law over the past 27 years, I can honestly say that bankruptcy work is the most satisfying legal work I have done, because people are genuinely happy after they complete the process and receive their discharge. It's as if a huge weight has been lifted off their shoulders and I helped them to get that relief.. I also believe it is important that you choose an attorney with empathy and one that you like as a person. It makes things so much easier if you know that your attorney cares about you, that he or she will personally take your calls, or answer your emails, instead of treating you like just another filing. I believe in providing my clients with professional and personal service at a fair price. I worked by may through College and Law School waiting tables, cooking and tending bar. I am no different than my clients, I just happen to have a law degree and that allows me to help them get a new lease on life.

Since 1986, I have represented individuals throughout Western Michigan in matters involving Social Security, Worker's Compensation, Personal Injury and Unemployment Benefits Law. This year, I will have been in practice for 39 years. I have a proven track record of providing positive results for clients. If you are disabled or have been injured on the job or due to the negligence of others, I will listen to you and will do my best to obtain a favorable outcome. I approach each client compassionately and work to understand the details of your individual situation to identify the best course of action for you.. At this point in my career, I have conducted over 2,000 Social Security hearings and have represented hundreds of worker's compensation clients. Unlike so many other Social Security attorneys, I am willing to appeal to federal court if appropriate; I have written over 500 such appeals. I am the only attorney in Michigan to have served three years as the Chair of the State Bar's Social Security Law Section, and I have worked to make the Social Security Bar more professional for years. No attorney worth a darn never loses a Social Security case, because those attorneys never take chances, but I usually will be willing to take a chance on you. Winning these cases is not about fighting; it is about presenting the evidence in your case in the best way possible by knowing how to do so. It's fair to say that I know how to do that. And while trials are less frequent in Worker's Compensation, I've conducted hundreds of depositions and participated in many trials and appeals. Unlike so many attorneys, I can handle your entire case. And you will be hard pressed to find another attorney who has appeared before the Michigan Court of Appeals in hundreds of cases, before the Michigan Supreme Court in several cases, in the federal courts of Michigan in hundreds of cases, and before the Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals in several cases.. And in breaking news, I have just been chosen (by a vote of other lawyers) as one of the best lawyers in Grand Rapids in both Worker's Compensation and Social Security. I also was board certified in the area of Social Security by the National Board of Trial Advocacy (NBTA); currently, I am the only such attorney in the State of Michigan.. You are welcome to call me today to schedule a consultation to find out if I can help you.

Robert F. Mirque Jr. is an attorney practicing U.S. immigration law in Grand Rapids, Michigan. For over 28 years, Mr. Mirque has helped businesses, individuals, and families obtain legal status in the United States. The firm proudly calls itself a “value-driven” law office meaning that we want to make sure that the client gets the most out of every dollar spent. This is done in many ways during our representation but, it starts with rates that are very reasonable; payment plans available to our clients; acceptance of major credit cards; and an office is conveniently located downtown with ample free parking.. Mr. Mirque was admitted to practice law in 1992. Prior to seeing any clients, he clerked for the U.S. Attorney’s Office in the Western District of Michigan and the Eastern District of Michigan. From there, he clerked with the Hon. Horace W. Gilmore, United States District Court for the Eastern District of Michigan. After working for the court, Mr. Mirque joined a large law firm where he represented both individuals and businesses in immigration matters.. In 2000, Mr. Mirque left the firm to establish his own firm. Mirque Law was created to provide the immigration client with “a better legal experience”. In doing so, the firm adopted a “client centered” approach to handling cases. In a nutshell, our mission is based on the fact that without clients it doesn’t matter how much mahogany and marble is in the lobby and unless we truly focus on the client, we simply won’t be around for very long. Our office exists wholly for the benefit of the client and not the other way around. It is sad that there are some lawyers who believe that clients will continue come to them no matter how they are treated. For those lawyers, the client is simply a case number. We believe in something different – we believe that a client is why we exist.. Mirque Law focuses it practice in the following areas:. If you have an immigration matter and you wish to speak with me, call me at for a free Immigration Status Strategy Meeting where we will review your issues and outline a way to achieve your goal. Or, go to our website at for more information.. We work very hard to provide every client with a better legal experience.

Review: "Ashley was amazing. I wasn't sure what I needed (a will or a trust) but I was able to explain my situation to Ashley and she offered the pros and cons for each option along with her professional opinion. I went with the Trust package and am not disappointed. The documents were put together in a timely manner. When it came time for me to sign the documents, Ashley went through each section and patiently answered any and all of the questions I had, in a down to earth easy to understand manner. I would recommend her to everyone. Plus, she made me aware of a few other things I am eligible for that will save me money in the long run. She really went above and beyond in that regard. I highly recommend her."
