When I graduated from law school, I was honored to be chosen as a judicial law clerk for Judge James P. Smith.  In Judge Smith's court, I had a front row seat to many of the best trial lawyers in North Alabama.  I watched those great lawyers fight hard for their clients.  It didn't take long for me to decide I wanted to be a lawyer who fights hard for my client, and who doesn't back down from a trial.  My mentor, Bud Watson, gave me my opportunity once my one-year judicial clerkship ended.  Since then, I have devoted my law practice to cases involving severe and debilitating personal injuries, substantial damages, and wrongful death.  For 15 years, I have successfully argued cases to verdict in many Alabama counties, and Federal courts.

I attended the University Of Alabama School of Law from 1983-1986 obtaining my Juris Doctorate and getting licensed by the Alabama State Bar in 1986.  The last 4 months of 1986 I practiced in Fort Payne, Alabama with the Honorable Lee Clyde Traylor (later the Hon. JUDGE Lee Clyde Traylor).. January 1, 1987, I took a job as an Associate Attorney with Higgs & Conchin in Huntsville where I tried numerous lawsuits and became known nationwide as a Lemon Law Litigator.. I started a solo practice January 1, 1990, concentrating in Bankruptcy, Domestic Relations and Personal Injury Cases (The Alabama Legislature statutorily did away with my Lemon Law Practice by passing a State Lemon Law that superseded the more favorable Federal Magnusson-Moss Warranty Act).. After a short stint as a Partner at Higgs, Emerson & Dezenberg in 1993-1994, I started a practice limited to Consumer Bankruptcy Law in 1994.. In May of 2012, Melissa W. I stay current on Bankruptcy Law developments by attending the National Association Of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys Annual Conferences, having attended San Diego in 2013 and scheduled to attend New York in 2014.

Andrea Roberts (formerly known as Andrea Cates) grew up in Pascagoula, Mississippi and graduated from Pascagoula High School in 2005. After recovering from hurricane Katrina, Andrea joined the United States Navy in 2008. She served in the Navy as an Aviation Ordnanceman until she was honorably discharged in 2013. While serving on active duty in the United States Navy Andrea was deployed three times during a time of war, for Operation Iraqi Freedom. Although Andrea had a crucial and critical job in the Navy she was able to obtain her bachelors degree in Criminal Justice while in the Navy. Andrea graduated from ECPI with highest honors, and was valedictorian of her program.. Andrea has always had a deep passion to help others so when she made the decision to leave the Navy she knew her next job had to continue her ability to protect and serve. So after many conversations with her mother she decided it was time for her to follow her dream of becoming a lawyer. Andrea began her law school journey at Thomas Jefferson School of Law, and six weeks prior to her first set of law school exams, her mother passed away. Andrea doesn't give up though, she keeps pushing forward. Her very last promise to her mother was that she would work hard and be eligible to transfer to Mississippi College School of Law to complete her second and third year of law school so that she would be able to take care of her full time. Although her mother did not make it, Andrea kept her promise. She transferred to Mississippi College School of Law and she graduated with honors (cum laude). Andrea found the love of her life while in law school, and moved to Alabama after graduation to study for the bar exam.. Andrea sat for the July 2019 bar exam and passed. Her consisitent comment when discussing this, is that her mom is the reason, her mom although in heaven, continues to take care of her. Andrea practiced criminal defense and domestic relations law in Mobile County until April of 2020 when she relocated to Huntsville, Alabama. Andrea practices criminal defense, domestic relations, child custody, and estate planning law in Huntsville, Alabama.. When Andrea is not advocating for her clients she and her husband enjoy taking care of their six dogs, swimming, fishing, hanging out at Leigh Acres and playing board games together. Andrea volunteers at the Huntsville Animal Shelter, and although she has six dogs of her own she fosters dogs from the animal rescue Furget Me Not. Andrea is consistently giving back any way she can to the community.. The same strive, dedication, perservance, hard work, and determination she has shown throughout her Naval career, and her law school journey, she continues in each case. She will fight hard for you and is more than just a lawyer, she is an advocate and more importantly a friend to each and every client she has. If you need help, call Andrea. She returns calls, emails, and texts as soon as they are received. Although her client reviews both on Avvo and Google speak for themselves, Andrea is compassionate, she is always there, and she will always take your calls. When you hire her, your issues become hers, you are able to rest easy because she will carry the worry for you and she always gives her best to achieve the best outcome possible.

Firm: Hornsby Watson & Hornsby

After graduating from law school in 1992, I joined my father and my current partner, former Judge S.A. (Bud)Watson in their practice. Both have been fantastic mentors and are passionate about preparing every single client’s case as though we were going to present it to a jury.. Today, our team continues the tradition of excellence in preparation. We leave no stone unturned, often asking one another, "What haven't we yet considered?" By approaching each case in this manner, we have earned a reputation with insurance companies and opposing counsel which bodes well for our clients. While some cases are appropriately settled outside of court on behalf of a client, opposing lawyers and insurance companies know we're always ready to go to trial.. Our firm operates on a team concept. Each lawyer uses their best skill sets to contribute to each case. By operating as a team, we capitalize on the strengths of each lawyer. We also have the ability to review each case from several points of view.. Our firm handles very serious injury cases including brain injury, spinal cord injury, nursing home abuse, tractor-trailer accidents & other motor vehicle accidents. We're often asked if we only handle serious injury cases. We encourage potential clients to contact us so we can determine the magnitude of your case. Often, our clients are unaware of the long term impact of their injuries and may be underestimating the value of their case. There is no charge for this evaluation.. For more information, including my full bio, visit our website. I also encourage you to review our featured cases via our site at .
