I was born and raised in Leominster, Massachusetts. Leominster is diverse working class city of about 45,000 people in North Central Massachusetts 40 miles west of Boston. I always wanted to be a lawyer though I have no relatives in the profession. My father was a construction worker for over 35 years and my mother still works as a secretary. I was raised with the belief to fight for the little guy and good causes.. When I went to law school, I promised my parents that I would never work for large corporations but fight for people like us. I got interested in employment litigation my first year in law school when my dad was working in a ditch that did not comply with OSHA trenching standards and it collapsed on him. As a result of the accident, my dad has never worked again and has gone through multiple surgeries to repair damage to his knee. To see my parents struggle with only one income and see how much work meant to my dad, I realized my calling was to help people protect their employment rights. As a result of the accident, I clerked for the United States Department of Labor and began to immerse myself in learning laws that protect employees.. Since my graduation from law school, I have worked hard to keep true to my commitment in helping people like my mother and father protect their rights at the workplace. My continued commitment has brought many successes.. Should you need help, please feel free to call is. We know how much your job means to you.
I truly care about the well-being of my clients and am responsive to their needs. I would appreciate the opportunity to speak with you about your case.
I take a limited number of personal injury cases (including employment discrimination) so I give 100% attention to your case. I will be working on your case directly, and can promise you that you will get personalized attention. I have a strong record of jury trial success, and consequently, many favorable settlments, which can be viewed in more detail at my website . My last major judgment was for 8.3 million dollars in 2015 in Jackson County Circuit Court in a Westport Bar dispute, which included a defamation judgment of 2 million dollars against the attorney/bar owner's company.
I started at Polsinelli, White, Vardeman, & Shalton as a corporate lawyer, but soon found my calling as a trial lawyer.. I have worked on just about every imaginable type of personal injury matter. I have found my niche' in the area of worker's compensation and motor vehicle accidents. Although, I still do a little of everything "personal injury.". I am married with two college aged children. I am a drummer in a rock band that plays a variety of establishments in the KC Metro Area.. I also consider myself an avid sports fan.
I specialize in personal injury. I do not represent corporate managers or insurance companies. I represent real people. That is why I dedicate so much of my time to the representation of individual victims.. I recognize how difficult the legal process can seem and I make it my business to take the stress and complexity off the shoulders of our clients. YOU are my top priority.. I recognize that each client and case is different but all of my clients receive fair and aggressive representation.
I specialize in consumer protection and business to business litigation cases. I (unfortunately) spent the first decade of my career doing insurance defense work and learning and seeing first hand how insurers and corporate America systematically rip off and cheat the little guy and gal while America's legal system passively allows it to occur. I've since spent the better part of the last decade of my practice taking what I learned and using that knowledge against those businesses and institutions that harm consumers.

I practice criminal defense, and immigration law. I represent criminal defendants in cases at the state and federal level involving DWI, assault, drug offenses, theft, and sexual offenses. My expertise encompasses all areas of immigration law, with special focus on deportation defense, family immigration, appeals and federal court litigation.. I am highly experienced in counseling immigrants and criminal defense attorneys about the immigration consequences of criminal activity. This sets me apart from most criminal defense attorneys, who have a very limited understanding of the immigration consequences for their clients.

I am blessed to have a very talented, passionate and personable staff working alongside m and assisting me. Our goal is always to do an optimal job for our clients. I joined the firm of Shamberg, Johnson & Bergman, Chtd., in the fall of 2014 after spending two years in Wichita clerking for the Hon. J. Thomas Marten in the U.S. District Court for the District of Kansas.
I helped form PEAK for the same reason I became an attorney, I like solving problems and I’m not afraid to take risks or think outside the proverbial “box.” I am very fortunate to be surrounded by other lawyers at PEAK who feel the same. If you are reading this, I hope it means we will be working together.. I grew up on a farm in rural Nebraska complete with corn, soybeans, and a horse. For a short time, I even went to school in a one-room schoolhouse (seriously). I am also a triplet. From my early childhood, I loudly advocated for myself—how else do you get heard in a household with triplets, much less in a school where one teacher is teaching multiple grades at a time? I recall people telling me I should be an attorney and it stuck with me. After attending the University of Nebraska in Lincoln, I made my way to UMKC for law school.. I graduated from UMKC with highest honors and was fortunate to be hired by Shook, Hardy & Bacon LLP in 2007, where I was promoted to Partner seven years later. As an attorney at Shook, I spent most of my time working as national counsel for a Fortune 100 company dedicated to providing life-saving products and services. It was a great job and a great client. I worked on a flat-fee model, litigating all over the country. I immersed myself with the client’s business. I learned from some of the country’s best attorneys and even found myself sitting at trial counsel table at an early stage of my career (a rarity for a young, “BigLaw” attorney). The client ultimately rewarded me for my hard work by allowing me to first-chair a jury trial notwithstanding my (relative) lack of “gray hair.” I am proud of my trial experience. And I love everything associated with a jury trial.. In the eleven years I have practiced law, I have worked on nearly every type of civil lawsuit. I have handled straight-forward “slip-and-fall” cases as well as multi-million-dollar contract disputes. I have resolved high-stakes, business-to-business litigation. No matter the case or the issues, clients are best served by a lawyer who thinks strategically and practically. A “win” is not truly a win if the client’s legal fees are unreasonable or if there is a lack of alignment between the client and attorney. I am always mindful of the value attorneys need to bring to any dispute.. I formed PEAK because I would like to revolutionize the practice of law. If you are looking for legal advice or have a problem you would like to solve, I would love the opportunity to speak with you.. Credentials:. Education: B.A. University of Nebraska (2004); J.D., summa cum laude, University of Missouri--Kansas City (2007). Bar Admissions: Missouri and Kansas.
