I grew up in a family where my father came from a very poor family of 9 children and my mother grew up in a family of 5 children.  Both of them grew up in Crosby Ironton, Minnesota.  Dad was so poor that the brothers had to loan their shoes and clothes to the other siblings in order to go to school.  Dad saw many of the fathers of his school friends lose their lives when the mines they were working in collapsed.  From that point on, he became an active advocate for the underdog and never stopped.  He taught us kids to be compassionate and advocate for the families that had bad luck or less opportunities because they were poor.  I had no choice but be inspired to advocate for others.. When I graduated from the U of M, women were encouraged to choose teaching, nursing and or secretarial work.  I graduated from the College of Education, but longed to be a lawyer that at that time was not an acceptable choice for a woman.  After the birth of my third child, women were enrolling in law school in waves.  I was thrilled to join the wave and started my first year at Hamline Law School when my youngest, was 6 months old.. I graduated from law school in 1980 and after clerking in Bankruptcy Court and working in Real Estate, I started my own law firm in 1993 practicing in the area of personal injury.  I have loved my life as a lawyer. I have enjoyed working with a group of terrific co-workers who have become wonderful friends.  My clients will testify, that I fight very hard for them and always try to obtain the best result possible. I am most fortunate to have these opportunities.

I graduated from law school in 2004 and have spent nearly every day since then in court. Whether that was as a judge's clerk, a prosecutor, a defense attorney ... and as a defendant. I am not a perfect person. I have made mistakes in my life ... made poor decisions ... and I have had to rely on others (including a lawyer) to help me navigate those difficult times. I also needed to come to terms with a chemical dependency problem that was causing harm to myself and others. Gratefully, I found a program that works and, after turning myself over to the care of a power greater than myself. I have begun the long (and rewarding) process of making a daily amends to those that I hurt --- primarily by not returning to old/bad habits and by embracing a commitment to rigorous honesty ... something that allows me to live life (and its ups and downs) on life's terms. I am not a magician. But, I do believe that I have the personal and professional experience necessary to advise you about when it comes to what you can/should consider when you or someone you love is facing the sort of problem that might require the hiring of a lawyer. I founded Headland Law & Strategy to combine my personal passion for medical and technology-based innovation with my nearly two decades of professional experience in law, intellectual property, business, engineering, strategy and project management.. I have a wealth of legal and technical experience, gained through nearly a decade inside the legal team at Fortune-75 Honeywell International Inc.; several years within the IP powerhouse Fish & Richardson; and several years as a hands-on design engineer at Artesyn Communication Products.

I focus my practice on employment litigation and represent clients in both state and federal courts, as well as before the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, the Minnesota Department of Human Rights, the United States Department of Labor and other federal, state and local agencies.  I have successfully defended employers against wage and hour claims as well as claims involving workplace discrimination; harassment; retaliation; drug and alcohol testing; and breach of contract, including claims involving non-compete and non-solicitation agreements and other common law tort claims.  In addition, I was selected to the 2015 Minnesota Rising Stars list, a designation received by no more than 2.5% of attorneys within the state. I am originally from Lincoln, Nebraska. I earned a Bachelor of Journalism degree from the University of Nebraska, Lincoln, with minors in philosophy, history, and political science. In my off-time, I coached and judged high school policy debate. I graduated in 1998, moved to Minnesota, and started work at Allina Health Systems as their Conference Center Coordinator. I was accepted by William Mitchell College of Law in 2000, began working as a law clerk for Meshbesher & Associates in 2001, and graduated with my JD in 2003. I have been practicing with Meshbesher & Associates ever since.

I am one of triplets and grew up in Iowa.
