Firm: The Hartman Law Firm, LLC

Frank Hartman concentrates his legal practice in several areas, specializing in cases concerning social security disability, auto accidents, on the job injuries, slip and falls, trucking injuries, medical malpractice, and wrongful death. Mr. Hartman recently achieved a settlement on behalf of his client, a Beaufort, SC woman involved in a slip and fall claim, obtaining a $230, settlement with a maximum possible recovery of $300, had death resulted.. The Hartman Law Firm, LLC was established by Mr. Hartman in 2011 in North Charleston, South Carolina. Mr. Hartman worked with a prominent local firm prior to opening his own firm. During the three years of his employment, Mr. Hartman tripled the settlement results for his clients. His experience in the industry led him to conclude that large plaintiff firms put their own bottom line above their clients’ best interest, settling their clients’ cases on a case volume practice as opposed to obtaining the best results for their client, or profit over people. Insurance companies are well aware of the large firms’ reputation for settling cases for less than their actual values, so they offer significantly less, knowing these claims are likely to settle anyway. Mr. Hartman opened his own firm so he could help his clients obtain the best settlement results and because he thinks the people of South Carolina deserve better.. Mr. Hartman is a local boy who returned to serve his home town. Born at the Baptist Hospital in Columbia, SC, his family moved to the Isle of Palms when he was two years old. Mr. Hartman grew up on the Isle of Palms, attended Sullivan’s Island Elementary School, Porter-Gaud High School, and is a James F. Byrnes Scholar and an alumnus of the College of Charleston. He graduated from The Florida State University School of Law in 2006. Mr. Hartman was an exchange student to the University of Groningen, the Netherlands while in undergraduate school. He studied at Oxford University, England, and Erasmus University in Rotterdam, the Netherlands while in law school. Mr. Hartman speaks Dutch and Spanish and has a working knowledge of Russian, bringing a multicultural viewpoint to his practice. His uncle, Cotton Harness, served the people of the Low Country for thirty years in Environmental Law, and was a forerunner and advocate for mediation in South Carolina. His father, Pogo Hartman, was a successful personal injury lawyer in Columbia, SC.. Today, Mr. Hartman is a well-respected and successful attorney in South Carolina, a member of the Charleston Bar Association, South Carolina Bar Association, American Bar Association, and The South Carolina Association for Justice. Mr. Hartman is Episcopalian by faith, and a published author, penning “Tyger River Redux,” an exploration of the historical foundation of insurance bad faith law in the State of South Carolina. Future publications include “Ten Ways to Wreck Your Car Accident Case.”. Catherine "Catie" Meehan's nursing background comes into play daily as she represents individuals who have been injured at work or in their lives. What sets Catie apart from other lawyers in her field is her previous career as a pediatric nurse at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) for three years before pursuing a law degree. As a licensed registered nurse, Catie has a solid understanding of her clients' medical issues and empathy for what her clients are likely to be experiencing.. Clients also appreciate Catie's open and honest communication and her ability to set realistic outcomes. She advocates fiercely on her clients' behalf because she knows the toll a workers' compensation or personal injury case can take on her clients and their families. Catie helps her clients by answering their questions that range from obtaining medical treatment and weekly compensation checks while out of work to getting partial and total disability benefits. Catie understands the difficulties a personal injury or work accident creates including pain and income loss. She works hard to ensure that clients receive regular workers' compensation weekly checks and uninterrupted medical care.. Catie earned a B.A. in psychology from the University of Notre Dame before heading to MUSC to earn a B.S. in nursing. After years of serving patients in a hospital setting, Catie wanted to help them in a legal setting and decided to become a lawyer. Both medical and legal disciplines serve her well in understanding what victims of accidents go through. While in law school, Catie received the Founder's Award for Professionalism in Advocacy. She also served as Student Works Editor of the Charleston Law Review. Catie has authored published articles for Charleston Law Review that explored human tissue property rights. Her other study covered NFL concussion litigation with a proposal to create a victim relief fund to compensate former NFL players with football-related neurological injuries.. In addition to her law practice, Catie is involved in her community and professional organizations. She currently serves on the Board of Directors of Kids' Chance of South Carolina. This organization provides scholarships and support for college and vocational education to dependents of South Carolina workers catastrophically or fatally injured in work-related accidents. $5.8M.  $5M.  $3.5M.  $2.7M.  $2.15M.  $2M.  $1.9M.  $1.6M.  And the list goes on.. My objective as a personal injury lawyer is simple -- to help people who have been injured and damaged by the actions and misdeeds of corporations, businesses, individuals, and other wrongdoers.  Based on the results I have obtained for my clients for the past 17+ years, my objective is achieved on a regular basis, day in and day out.  These results include: $5.8M for a client injured in a automobile collision; $5M for the estate of a decedent who was killed because of a desgin defect in an automobile;  $3.5M for a client injured when her car was hit by an intoxicated driver; $2.7M for a client injured because a staircase was improperly maintained; $2.15M for a client injured because of insufficient railing on a walkway; $2M for the estate of a decedent who was killed in an automobile accident; $1.9M for the estate of a decedent (a minor) who was killed when exiting a school bus; $1.6M for a client injured because of an uneven walking surface; and numerous other $1M level/six figure results.. These results are greater and more numerous than many lawyers who have a higher AVVO rating than I do.  Does an AVVO rating lower than I deserve bother me?  No, not at all.  Instead of taking time away from my practice to increase my AVVO rating (such as attending golf/seminar meet-and-greets), I stay focused on my practice and my clients.  Focus that creates results for my clients.  I thoroughly enjoy the practice of law and and obtaining results that matter.
