Personal injury involves injury to an individual. The injury can be temporary or permanent. This area of law allows the injured person to sue in a private action called a civil action, known in the legal community as a tort action. A "tort" is a wrong against a person. Any accident or injury against a person can constitute a tort -- whether it be in a car accident, the use of a product, or the negligence of a professional. In a personal injury suit, the injured party is seeking compensation for all of the losses they have experienced and will continue to experience as a result of that injury. These elements of damage may include medical expenses, loss of wages, pain and suffering, disability and disfigurement.. My law firm isready to assist you in evaluating your case and pursue justice.. Different degrees of fault exist and several elements are necessary to prove in court in order to be successful against the wrongdoer or negligent party in a tort action. Also, more than one person or party may be at fault, and responsibility may be apportioned among all of the wrongdoers. In some instances, the victim may even be partly at fault for the tragedy but that does not necessarily mean the person does not have a right to bring a lawsuit.. If you are successful, the person who is injured can recover money damages. These damages can be for a number of reasons: medical bills, lost income, future medical bills and care, and other economic damages that you incur. In addition, you may recover what is termed non-economic damages. These are damages that may be difficult to quantify, but nevertheless, are very real: pain and suffering, disfigurement and loss of consortium.. If you are the victim of a personal injury, there are several things you can do to help yourself.. Always call the police and make a police report regardless ofwhether or not you think you are injured as you may not feel pain until hours or even days after the accident. You should be cooperative with the police.. Obtain the full names, addresses and phone numbers of everyone involved, including drivers, passengers, pedestrians, and any witnesses.. Obtain information about the other vehicles involved, such as license plate numbers, make, and model.. Find out the insurance status, names of insurance companies and policy numbers of all vehicles and persons involved. If any drivers were not the registered owners, get the registered owner's name, address, and phone number(s).. If you have a camera, take as many photos as possible of the accident site, the vehicles and people involved, and anything else that might have bearing on how and why the accident occurred.. Make sure that you seek proper medical attention as soon as possible.. Call your own insurance company as soon as possible and report the accident.. Do not contact, make any statements or answer any questions from the other driver's insurance company until you have consulted an attorney. Be polite, but decline to discuss any aspects of the accident until you have obtained legal advice.. If you or a loved one has suffered an injury as a result of an accident, please call my law firm for a free case evaluation. The initial consultation is FREE of charge, and if we agree to handle your case, we will work on a contingency fee basis, which means we get paid for our services only if there is a monetary recovery of funds.. Most personal injury cases are governed by a expiration deadline to file a case known as a Statute of Limitations. This means that you only have a certain period of time in which you can file a lawsuit. These statutes vary and it takes an experienced personal injury law firm to examine the facts and the law to determine the limitations period that applies in each case. Therefore, please call my law firm right away to ensure that you do not waive your right to possible compensation.

I understand that coping with the loss of a loved one is one of the most difficult things we face in life, and I help my clients navigate the complex and confusing estate and trust administration process with compassion and understanding.
My approach to litigation is practical and efficient. I understand the financial and emotional costs of litigation and strive to minimize those costs while achieving a beneficial outcome. I have a friendly and engaging demeanor that generally leads to a satisfactory resolution of a problem. However, when faced with an intractable or unreasonable opponent, my competitive instincts come out and I am unsatisfied with any outcome short of victory. I have had an incredible run of success at OKGC. I have resolved and settled hundreds of disputes either without the need for litigation or during the early stages of litigation. However, when settlement proves to be impossible or impractical, I do not hesitate to take a case to trial and I've won every case I've tried at OKGC.. In my free time I enjoy biking, hiking, kayaking and skiing. I am an avid basketball and softball player as well. I volunteer regularly with Adaptive Adventures, an organization that enables and helps individuals with physical disabilities to participate in active sports such as kayaking, skiing and biking. I represent individuals in matters involving all areas of family law including but not limited to: divorce, legal separation, orders of protection, child custody, prenuptial and postnuptial agreements, relocation cases involving UCCJEA, modification of maintenance (alimony), contested and uncontested divorces, and post-decree matters. I take the time to get to know my clients and attempt to assure their trust and confidence in my services. I also selectively handle limited traffic cases as I particularly enjoy assisting teens and seniors who need traffic assistance.. I use my experience, knowledge of the law and familiarity with the court system in order to obtain positive outcomes for my clients. My philosophy of doing business is really quite simple: Treat each client as if they are my sole priority and give each client the personal care and attention sought while diligently working on a successful outcome.. As a former Cook County Assistant State’s Attorney, I worked for several years on high profile cases. I vigorously represent clients through detailed explanations of the legal process and by offering sound and realistic advice.. I understand that each client’s case is a sensitive matter and I guarantee that I will afford each client the proper attention, dedication and care that each client deserves.
I have counseled clients in over a hundred divorce, paternity, child custody and child support cases, including trials and contested hearings. I gained my divorce experience at a large divorce firm in downtown Chicago, representing business owners, professionals, and high income/high net worth individuals. I graduated from Georgetown University with a degree in finance, which makes me different than almost all other divorce attorneys because I understands complicated financial matters. Most divorce attorneys will not understand business valuations, close corporations, unique investment structures, and retirement assets. I understand tax returns, income statements, balance sheets, and business appraisals that leave most family law attorneys confused.. I moved to Illinois in 2011 to raise a family of my own. As a father and husband, I understand how important it is for a parent to have a close relationship with his or her children, and how a divorce can and will change ever aspect of a person's life.
I have been in private practice for the past 40 plus years. In the first 20 years there was extensive experience in the areas of GENERAL CIVIL LITIGATION, REAL ESTATE, PROBATE, FEDERAL & STATE TAXATION, CORPORATE, PARTNERSHIP, ESTATE PLANNING, BANKRUPTCY, and GENERAL PRACTICE. All this occurred before my practice began a concentration in the FAMILY LAW LITIGATION ISSUES. As a result of my back ground and experience, I have developed skills in accounting & legal areas that are involved in every divorce and family law case. There are few cases where the assets or liabilities are not affected by laws relating to real estate, estate planning, business (corporate & partnership) and taxation. Experiences in these areas are a definite asset in my practice.
