When I'm not working on my cases, I prefer to either spend time with my girls and watch their sporting games (soccer, softball); or I will exercise by biking (road cycling) or hitting the gym for an hour. I like to socialize with friends on the weekends when possible. I've built a "irish pub" in my basement that has brought countless hours of entertainment. I enjoy vacationing in Colorado with family at least twice a year. My kids have grown to love the mountains as I have over the years.

I love to help people who are in trouble. Having grown up with the business, my experience with people who need help far excceds my nine years as a practicing attorney. Initially working as a clerk when I was fourteen, I have learned about everything, and more importantly evreyone, that makes up the courts, prosecutor's offices, and law enforcement professionals involved with the criminal justice system. With the exception of school at Notre Dame and Saint Louis University, I am a lifelong resident of Johnson County, Kansas. The number one priority in my life is family, with whom I love to be outside, looking for fun and laughs, as much as possible.
I limit my practice to defense of criminal matters in the Municipal, State and Federal courts of Kansas and Missouri. Although I prefer to take cases to trial and prepare each and every case in my practice as though it were going to trial, I understand that every case and evey client is unique. Just as the facts of any given case may not be conducive to a favorable outcome at trial, each individual client will have different objectives and concerns with an evidentiary dispositon of their case as opposed to an agreed disposition or plea. I take my clients and their concerns very seriously and work together with each client to determine the best available disposition in every case.

I chose the field of DUI defense for many reasons. I have a great deal of experience in all areas of the criminal law, and it is my opinion that more people are falsely accused of DUI than any other crime. Many Judges and jurors assume a person is impaired if he or she cannot walk perfectly heel-to-toe on a line or stand on one leg for thirty seconds. The fact is, most people cannot do these things after having nothing to drink. Try to do theses things in your living room, then imagine trying to do them on the side of a busy street after being pulled out of your car by a police officer. Additionally, I like the scientific aspects of this field, such as the effects of alcohol and drugs on the human body and the inability of breath testing machines to accurately measure a person's alcohol level.
I believe in delivering personal attention and outstanding service for each of my clients. While certainly important, the practice of criminal defense is more than simply filing the appropriate motions and handling the technical part of the legal craft.. Beyond that however, educating my clients is a fundamental part of my practice. Everyone deserves, and frankly, needs a clear understanding of what is happening with their case, and why, so that they can make educate, informed decisions about how they want to proceed with their case. To that end, you will discuss your case with me and will never be shunted to a paralegal or assistant.
