Firm: William Denning

William is the founding member of Denning Law Firm, LLC. After spending over a decade as a partner at a well-known civil defense firm in the Kansas City area, William (or “Willie” as his friends and family refer to him) established Denning Law Firm with the purpose of using the knowledge and experience he gained representing insurance companies and their insureds for nearly fifteen years to now represent and prosecute cases on behalf of those that have been injured or wronged.. Willie’s experience showed him that people who are injured by the negligence of others need someone with the legal knowledge and experience to help them through the process of obtaining the relief or remedy to which they are entitled. Working with insurance companies provided invaluable insight into how they evaluate, negotiate and defend claims against individuals who have been injured or experienced other catastrophic loss and damage. This knowledge allows Willie to level the playing field when negotiating and litigating against insurance companies.. Willie has successfully tried multiple cases to verdict in both federal and state court including trying several multi-million dollar cases. He has argued cases before the Kansas Supreme Court and the Court of Appeals in both Kansas and Missouri. He also is admitted to practice before the United States Supreme Court, 10th Circuit and 8th Circuit Court of Appeals.. Willie practices throughout Missouri and Kansas and primarily focuses on the areas of personal and catastrophic injury, motor vehicle accidents, product liability, trucking/transportation liability, premises liability (slip and fall) and medical/professional liability. Willie was a recipient of the 2019 Super Lawyers designation. When Willie is not representing clients, he can be found spending time with his wife, Emily, his two daughters and their two dogs.

While serving as a prosecutor and then as General Counsel for the Kansas Board of Healing Arts for many years, I realized the difference it made to have a well-qualified and experienced attorney representing the professionals in the cases before the Board. Many professionals who attempted to represent themselves or had a "lawyer friend" helping them struggled with the processes. Since going into private practice in 2017, I am now able to assist individuals who find themselves the subject of an investigation or disciplinary action by their professional licensing board.  I also provide scope of practice advice, review of contracts and forms, assist in setting up new practice entities, represent providers with peer review matters and other health care related issues. I believe in a personalized approach to representation and being efficient in the time spent so as to minimize the expense for clients as much as possible.

Since 2014, judges and other attorneys have recognized me as having the highest level of professional excellence for both legal ability and ethical standards and have rated me to be AV Preeminent by Martindale-Hubbell. Since 2016, I have  also been selected to Missouri and Kansas Super Lawyers. Only 5% of attorneys in Missouri and Kansas receive this distinction.. I understand this is probably the most difficult time of your life. You need an attorney who will work with you to effectively deal with the issues that are important to you. Too many attorneys make the resolution of cases more difficult and expensive than is necessary. i will always use an approach to maximize the result for you and minimize the expense. If the opposing party is unreasonable, I have extensive experience in representing clients in the courtroom.. I have resided in the Kansas City area since 1973. Prior to attending law school, I was the co-founder of an adoption agency and the general manager of a family-owned manufacturing company.  I have personal experience in dealing with the impact of divorce. I live with my wife in Olathe, Kansas. We have a blended family of five adult children. I am active in community and church activities. Robert J. Drumm began practicing law in 2002, graduating with top honors (Order of the Coif) from the University of Kansas School of Law after working several years in the printing and packaging industries. He holds a Bachelor's degree and a Master's degree from Texas Tech University. Robert is licensed to practice in Kansas and Missouri.. Robert brings a unique background to his transactional practice areas. He practiced as an associate at a large Kansas City law firm in one of the region's leading real estate practice groups, and in business transactions with a large international firm. Robert then served as associate general counsel to a publicly-traded real estate investment trust, where he ran over $2 billion in acquisitions, dispositions and financing; he advised asset management and development teams; and he assisted in corporate governance and securities compliance. He also managed outside counsel and provided strategic guidance to the company in disputes ranging from small landlord-tenant cases to high-stakes litigation.. Robert’s background also includes five years as an entrepreneur. He built a small, home-based packaging supply company into a well-known and respected supplier serving the craft beverage industry, with a nationally-focused sales staff and a traditional bricks-and-mortar presence. After selling the business to investors from a private equity group, he refocused on his transactional practice and worked both independently and with a middle-market firm in Kansas City.. Robert’s background as in-house counsel for a publicly-traded company, as a small business owner, and real estate investor helps him stay focused on the real-world objectives behind legal matters—whether they be transactions, compliance issues, or litigation—and he especially enjoys working with entrepreneurs in planning for growth, in addressing challenges, and in smoothing out the inevitable transitions in the life cycle of a business or a real estate asset. He also enjoys working with churches and charitable organizations in real estate and organizational management projects.. Most of Robert’s time outside the office is devoted to his wife and five children, and to activities at his family’s third-generation farm in Coffey County, Kansas.. Robert approaches every engagement with these three fundamentals in mind:. 1.  Risk is to be managed, not avoided. An objective advisor can help you assess those risks, and a good negotiator can help you mitigate them, but risk-taking is a part of every successful business or real estate venture. A lawyer should understand that and won't tell you "no," but rather "the potential consequences of that action are....". 2.  Avoid sweeping things under the rug and kicking cans down the road. Business and real estate principals should have those awkward conversations and consider contingencies early on, before issues arise. If they hit these question head-on, they’ll have better results and better relationships down the road when it comes time to divide the pot of gold—or the pile of manure—before they encounter it.. 3. Good legal work can’t fix bad deals. I stand ready to help clients go beyond the financial reports and the legal documents to assess their strategic options holistically, so that they know who they’re dealing with and how a business or real estate project really works before they commit themselves to a course of action. I'd rather help you avoid a mistake than help you work your way out of it.

Michael Wharton has been a trial attorney for over 20 years. After graduating from the University of Missouri – Kansas City School of Law in 1992, Mr. Wharton spent three years as an associate attorney at Walters Bender & Strohbehn, P.C. in Kansas City, Missouri. There he earned valuable experience as an injury attorney handling complex litigation such as dangerous product cases, railroad injuries, and class actions.. He was elevated to partner and specialized in injury cases such as car accidents, slip and fall injuries, and insurance claims.. Over the years, he developed a philosophy for how to best help those injured by the negligence of others -- be aggressive. The insurance companies have claim representatives working hard for them, so it’s important that the injury attorney be equally aggressive. At Couch Pierce King & Wharton, he continues to diligently represent his clients to ensure that they are treated fairly when they are often at their most vulnerable.. Mr. Wharton is an experienced trial lawyer who fights to make sure that his client's rights are advanced at every step of the claim process. He understands that it is important to his clients that their medical bills are timely paid, their lost income reimbursed, and their futures protected. He also understands how an injury can change a client's everyday life, and how important it is that his clients are compensated for that change. He works hard to see that these goals are accomplished for every client in every case.. Mr. Wharton has been awarded a pre-eminent ("AV") rating by the  Martindale Hubbell Law Directory and is a graduate of the Ross T. Roberts Inns of Court. He is a member of the Kansas and Missouri Bar Associations, and is admitted to practice before the state courts of Missouri and Kansas, as well as the United States District Courts of the Western District of Missouri, the District of Kansas, the Southern District of Texas, and U.S. Court of Appeals, 8th Circuit.

Life and Estate Planning is about determining your path through both life and death.  By preparing we can control a small piece of our future.  We can protect ourselves by ensuring that our wishes are documented and our voice preserved, even during a medical or mental incapacity.  We can protect those we love and who depend on us by evaluating their needs and planning our estate, no matter the size to best serve those needs.  Whether that is naming a guardian, protecting assets from indiscreet waste, or providing them with the tools they need to provide for our care, there is a plan that will make it easier.  Finally we can protect our assets to most effectively provide for our care, and minimize the effects of taxes after we are gone.. In order to best serve my clients, I focus on relationship building rather than a short-term sale.  The more I know and understand my client, the better I can tailor an estate plan to suit their needs.  By building that relationship, clients feel comfortable returning to me as their lives and estate planning needs change.. My goal is to educate and empower my clients to make the plan that works for them now and help them re-evaluate the plan as life changes around us all.

I believe in delivering personal attention and outstanding service for each of my clients.  While certainly important, the practice of criminal defense is more than simply filing the appropriate motions and handling the technical part of the legal craft.. Beyond that however, educating my clients is a fundamental part of my practice.  Everyone deserves, and frankly, needs a clear understanding of what is happening with their case, and why, so that they can make educate, informed decisions about how they want to proceed with their case.  To that end, you will discuss your case with me and will never be shunted to a paralegal or assistant.
