Firm: Thapar Law

My approach to practicing law is to make it as stress-free as possible for my clients. That means that I have created an environment where working with my firm is understandable, approachable and pleasant.. I have been practicing law for approximately 15 years and my area of specialization is estate planning, which includes the drafting of wills, trusts and also handling probate matters. As mentioned previously, taking care of my clients is my top priority, and as such, I charge a flat fee for nearly all of the clients that I work with.. We do not charge for new clients consultations and I do not "bill" clients when they call me to answer a simple question! Thanks for taking the time to review my biography and I look forward to working with you and your family to achieve your estate planning goals.

Mathew believes a pragmatic, collaborative approach yields the best—and most efficient—results for his clients.  Whether litigating claims in court or strongly advocating his clients’ positions over the negotiating table, Mathew continuously and creatively seeks the shortest path to his clients’ objectives.. Since 2008, Mathew has practiced primarily in the areas of creditors’ rights, business and loan litigation and commercial bankruptcy.  While his practice is specialized, Mathew’s successful representation of commercial lenders, bankruptcy trustees, businesses, investment funds and others has often required a “Swiss Army Knife” approach to legal representation.  This reflects the fact that resolving complex legal challenges often requires more than one tool from the lawyer’s proverbial toolbox.. Mathew has litigated claims involving breach of contract, enforcement of security interests and real property foreclosure, judicial dissolution of business entities, appointment of commercial receivers, fraudulent and preferential transfers of property, and denial of bankruptcy discharge.  On the other hand, Mathew has completed transactions in the context of loan workouts, forbearance and settlement agreements, deed-in-lieu conveyances, real property sales and lease agreements, UCC collateral sales and auctions, security interest documentation, collateral assignments, boundary disputes, easement enforcement, loan acquisition due diligence, among other matters.. Though born in Northern California, Mathew was raised in rural Vermont and earned his undergraduate degree at Hampshire College in Amherst, Massachusetts and his law degree from the University of Washington.  Before joining Kell, Alterman & Runstein, L.L.P., Mathew was an associate for the Northwest law firm Ball Janik, L.L.P.  When not in the office, Mathew spends his time working on his 1929 house with his wife, playing with their two children, gardening, hiking and mountaineering, brewing beer, and running the occasional obstacle course race.
