In order to avoid conflicts, I charge a consultation fee of $100.  A conflict is created when I meet with a potential client, gather information about their case, and render some opinions as to how the law may apply to that client's case.  Some people do not want my office to represent their spouse and have scheduled appointments to simply keep me from being involved in the case and never had any intention of hiring me as their attorney.  Thus, to avoid such gamesmanship, I must charge for the initial consultation.
