I practice plaintiff's trial law, focusing on wrongful death, personal injury, medical and professional malpractice, employment discrimination, wrongful discharge, and civil rights cases.  As I lawyer I have chosen to represent individuals rather than corporations, citizens rather than governmental entities. In addition to my work as a plaintiff's trial attorney I also work in the area of family law, divorce, custody and similar subjects.  Family law cases are often hotly contested, and while we do not appear before a jury in these matters, the stakes are often far higher than a monetary award.. My practice style is open and communicative, and it is my approach to 'partner' with my clients as we aim, as a team, to achieve the most desirable result possible. In fact, in the past 36 months I have secured $2,508, in tort awards for my clients.. Litigation is inherently uncertain, and I do not enter into a trial lightly or without maximum participation and preparation.  Trial work is often a 'zero sum' game; as such, it is my goal to ensure that we maximize all possible strategic advantages.

I help my clients to understand and navigate the criminal justice system. I advocate for them to work towards achieving good resolutions.. The criminal justice system can seem overwhelming and being charged with a crime can have many negative consequences.. I have been practicing for nearly a decade starting as a Rule 9 intern for a prosecutor's office during law school. After that, I worked as a prosecutor for over two years. Now, as a criminal defense attorney, I use the knowledge and experience that I have gained from being on both sides of the aisle in order to best serve my clients.. Our firm serves the Chelan and Douglas County areas.. Give me a call at for a consultation. Do not delay. The government already has a head-start and time is of the essence.

I have practiced law for over 30 years, and have been working in Wenatchee since 1986.  East Wenatchee was my home growing up and I returned to practice law after beginning my career with a brief stint in Yakima.  Living in the Wenatchee Valley allows me to take advantage of the outdoor recreational opportunities that I love, particulary boating, fishing, and camping, and to be near my extended family.  I am a huge fan of Wenatchee's junior hockey team, the Wenatchee Wild, and I generally enjoy most sports.  I also enjoy playing poker, which contrary to many people's opinion is a game of skill rather than luck.  I just wish I had more skill.. I am married to a wonderful woman who is also a product of Wenatchee, and have two adult children.  After my daughter graduated from my alma mater, WSU, she became a teacher and has returned to teach in East Wenatchee, and my son lives here too so we get to see a lot of them both.

I have been in private practice of law since 1985.  My office was in Edmonds, Washington until 2001 when my wife and I moved to Wenatchee, Washington.  My main office is in Wenatchee and I have a second office in Quincy, Washington.. My personal practice is limited to business/corporate representation and estate planning, wills/trusts and probate.  Many of my clients are involved directly or indirectly in agriculture, though I represent businesses and invididuals from across the spectrum of industry and size.. I consider my office, though, to be a full-service law firm -- if we do not feel comfortable handling a client matter, we know the right attorney(s) to associate with or to refer clients to who will take care of clients in the same way that we do.

I brief and argue select cases to the Washington and Ninth Circuit Courts of Appeal.. Trial attorneys and appellate attorneys are, at their core, highly-skilled persuaders. But a great trial lawyer and an effective appellate advocate rarely exist in the same body. The reason is simple: the rhetorical tools used at trial to persuade a fact-finder are far different from those necessary to persuade a panel of appellate judges.. While good trial lawyers are adept at ferreting out information through discovery, examining witnesses and making spontaneous tactical decisions in court, an appellate lawyer must be especially talented in persuasive writing. On appeal, the focus shifts from developing facts to mastering the record, researching legal principles, understanding subtle distinctions and emerging legal trends, exploring creative analogies, and guiding policy considerations that shape the law, and then assembling everything in a concise, persuasively written brief. Too many trial lawyers fail to make this adjustment. Indeed, too many trial lawyers do not even realize that an adjustment is required—to the detriment of their clients.. Trial lawyers have busy schedules: court appearances, depositions, discovery, client meetings, travel. The day-to-day life of a trial lawyer leaves little time for the thoughtful reflection, exhaustive research, and precise, persuasive writing that effective appellate representation requires. I focus my practice on what I do best: briefing and arguing to the Washington and Ninth Circuit appellate courts. If you are a Washington trial attorney facing an appeal, I can help.
