When Kristina Retzlaff went to law school, she chose a career that would allow her to help people in their day-to-day lives. “I chose family law because I wanted to work with people who, on a daily basis, would not normally have a need for an attorney,” Kristina says. “I knew this practice area would be most rewarding to me as an attorney. Being able to help people through difficult times in their lives is what makes my job more fulfilling than the average job.”. Kristina says, “What I enjoy most as I work with my clients is seeing the point when they realize that they are going to be okay. Early in the process of a divorce, or any lawsuit, really, people have a lot of doubt about the legal system, their future, their finances, and the children.  With my help, there comes a point in the process when they realize ‘life’s going to be different, but I’m still going to be fine’. It is extremely rewarding to get them to that point.”. Kristina Retzlaff graduated from the University of Kansas School of Law in 2004 and served as staff articles editor on the Kansas Journal of Law and Public Policy. She also participated in the Elder Law Clinic and the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program while a law student. For several years, Kristina traveled through the country as a regional adviser for her sorority, Delta Gamma.. Kristina received her Bachelor’s Degrees in Economics and Communications, cum laude, from Wichita State University in 2001.  As a student at Wichita State University, Kristina worked as a student intern for then-University President Donald Beggs.  She also chaired the Hippodrome committee, and was a vice-president for her sorority.. For the first six years of her legal career, Kristina focused her practice on Social Security Disability claims.  She expanded her practice area to family law five years ago.  Kristina spent ten years as an LSAT, MCAT, ACT, and SAT Instructor for Kaplan Test Prep and Admissions.. Since 2015, Kristina has served as a court-appointed mediator and Limited Case Manager.  She enjoys helping her LCM clients come to agreements that allow them to avoid a trial.  In all of her work, Kristina puts her emphasis on helping people navigate the legal system during rough times in their personal lives.. Professionally, Kristina serves as co-chair of the Family Law Committee at the Wichita Bar Association.  She is also a member of the Wesley E. Brown Inn of Court, an organization of attorneys and judges dedicated to the professionalism in the administration of justice.  Personally, Kristina is a member of St. Jude Catholic Church where she serves on the welcoming committee. My journey to becoming an advocate for the rights of personal injury victims began on the opposite side.  I spent eight years representing insurance companies against good people who were injured in car wrecks, truck wrecks, work related accidents and slip and fall accidents.  While I fought hard for my clients, the cases always left me empty inside.  One particular moment occurred when an adjuster discontinued weekly wage loss checks to a workers compensation victim without any reason.  I found out that the injury victim was unable to feed her family more than peanut butter and jelly sandwiches for Thanksgiving.  That poor lady and her family inspired me to stop fighting for the insurance company and start fighting for the injury victim.  I left my old firm and started working for Brad and Brian Pistotnik.  I quickly realized that Brian was the one who didn't care about fancy cars, jets and being famous.  Instead, Brian focused his attention on getting his clients what they deserved - fair, just and real compensation for their injuries.  I have followed along with him in my practice and continue to work hard for my clients to get them the best.
