Most people see me during one of the most difficult times in their lives. My goal is to provide my clients with thoughtful and effective legal representation to guide them through their tough time.

I have been practicing law for over 29 years (30 years this year), most of which has been focused upon family law, including all aspects from starting a family, adoption, custody, separation, divorce, and often handling complex property/ high asset and business issues.  In addition, I routinely handle international divorces and international custody cases, Hague cases, and interstate disputes. I also represent parents in juvenlle cases (dependency and neglect), and guardianship cases.  In my practice, I work to offer a collaborative approach if possible for a case, although I zealously advocate for my clients. I enjoy helping people find solutions instead of creating unnecessary obstacles, and I endeavor to do this respectfully and diligently, helping my clients look at all avenues to resolve their case.   I encourage parents to consider the children in regards to their actions in cases, especially when formulating parenting plans or planning a relocation.  I am a certified mediator and a trained collaborative lawyer.  I am a member of the American Bar Association Family Law Section, the Washington State Bar Association, Oregon State Bar Association, Colorado Bar Association,  International Association of Collaborative Professionals, AFCC, the National Association of Counsel for Children, and Whatcom Collaborative Law Group. I practice in Snohomish County, Skagit County and Whatcom County.  In my "free time" I enjoy hiking, yoga, kayaking, spending time with my family, going to concerts, and taking care of animals.

Ms. Thorp graduated from Ithaca College in 2004 cum laude and went on to receive her J.D. from New England School of Law (now New England Law Boston) in 2007.  While at New England School of Law, Ms. Thorp was a member of the Women’s Law Caucus, and the Children and the Law Society, and she served as a mentor to other students.  During law school, Ms. Thorp also interned at the Committee for Public Counsel Services in the Children and Family Law Program and at a well-known Metrowest law firm, where she focused on domestic relations law and practiced for over six years after graduating from law school. In 2013, Ms. Thorp joined Baskin & Associates, LLC, now Baskin Kershner & Thorp, LLC, where she represents clients in all areas of family law.  Ms. Thorp also provides mediation services, including attorney-assisted mediation, as an alternative to litigation.. I have been practicing exclusively in the area of Family Law and Domestic Relations for my entire career.  After graduating from the University of Denver law school, I accepted a fellowship position with the Eighteenth Judicial District in Colorado working exclusively in Family Law and Domestic Relations with the Honorable Judge Angela R. Arkin. The fellowship experience allowed me to see the judges’ perspective and how judges dealt with and analyzed issues. Working closely with judges taught me that good advocacy, preparation, and aggressive representation is very important to reach resolutions in or out of the courtroom.. I believe strongly that family law attorneys must do everything they can to minimize the emotional turmoil that divorcing families go through. Mary Joyce “M.J.” McCallum graduated cum laude from Seattle University School of Law in 2014. She received CALI Awards for Excellence in Legal Writing and Comprehensive Trial Advocacy. In addition, Ms. McCallum was one of the top six competitors in the 2013 James E. Bond ABA Moot Court Competition, earning her the opportunity to compete as a semifinalist in the National Appellate Advocacy Competition sponsored by the American Bar Association.. Ms. McCallum interned as a Rule 9 with the Snohomish County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office where she appeared as the prosecutor on civil traffic infractions calendars in all four of the District Courts in Snohomish County. There, she successfully argued misdemeanor criminal motions in Everett District Court as well as South District Court. She also gained valuable experience, taking two gross misdemeanor cases to trial. Ms. McCallum also worked as a Rule 9 attorney at Zachor and Thomas, a firm that provides contract prosecution services to nine cities in Snohomish County. After becoming an attorney, Ms. McCallum worked as an associate at Skantze Law, PLLC and Jay Carey Law Offices. In 2020, she opened her own law office - Solutions Legal Group, PLLC.. Prior to earning her JD, Ms. McCallum was an advocate for survivors of domestic violence for seven years. In this capacity, she accompanied her clients to court in Snohomish County, helping them obtain Protection Orders/Anti-harassment Orders, defend against allegations of domestic violence in Protection Orders/Anti-Harassment Orders, and navigate the legal system in general. Ms. McCallum also facilitated a support group for men who had been impacted by domestic violence and for victims who had been arrested for domestic violence related crimes. This experience provides Ms. McCallum with an in-depth understanding of the dynamics of domestic violence and a unique perspective on the effects intimate partner violence has on the family as a whole.. Moreover, Ms. McCallum is in her 6th year of practice and is a familiar face in Snohomish County Courts. I am passionate about helping you through all of your life transitions – from cradle to grave. I’ve been an attorney since 1994, when I was graduated from Washington University School of Law in St. Louis, Missouri. I first began the practice of law in Scott County, Missouri as the only public defender assigned to the entire county.  After two years in the rural area, my family and I moved to the Kansas City metro area where I joined the Department of Social Services representing the Children’s Division in child abuse and neglect cases.  After 8 years with the Department of Social Services, I joined the Earnshaw Hobbs Law Firm PC to continuing and broaden my advocacy skills on behalf of families and children. After almost 6 years with Earnshaw Hobbs, I opened my own firm, Kiske Law Office, LLC, in Zona Rosa.  I am licensed in both Missouri and Kansas (and hold an inactive license in Illinois). Because I also like to challenge myself, I am usually engaged in one or two large “extra-curricular” activities. Currently, I am privileged to serve on the Board of Directors for MARCH mediation.
