I started my own law practice in June of 2017 after working for two prior busy firms.  I have been practicing law since the year 2000, and I am taking all of my years of experience to focus on my client's individual legal needs.  I have extensive experience in the Family Court for all family court matters, District and Superior Court for all criminal matters and the Traffic Court for all motor vehicle violations.  I also have handled hundreds of personal injury claims obtaining the best possible results for my clients. Michael DegliObizzi joined Holloway Law after a successful start to his career as a Deputy Attorney General at the Delaware Department of Justice. Michael specializes in Criminal Defense, Driving Under the Influence cases, and Civil Litigation. He is an experienced trial attorney, having tried over 50 cases in the Superior Court of Delaware, the Court of Common Pleas, Family Court, and the Justice of the Peace Courts.. Michael began his tenure at the DOJ prosecuting misdemeanor criminal offenses in the Court of Common Pleas and Justice of the Peace Courts. He primarily focused on DUI cases and was the lead attorney responsible for running the Court of Common Pleas’ Mental Health Court on behalf of the State. He progressed in his duties to handling complex felony cases including financial related crimes, Burglary, Robbery, Drug Dealing, and weapon/firearm related offenses. Additionally, Michael has successfully prosecuted several homicide and gang participation cases.. In 2016, Michael was promoted to be the Assistant Unit Head of the Misdemeanor Trial Unit where he supervised all new criminal Deputy Attorneys General as they entered the office. He was responsible for teaching new prosecutors how to handle a caseload and take a case to trial. As part of his duties, he reviewed every misdemeanor DUI arrest in New Castle County to determine the appropriate plea offer. Michael is certified in DWI Detection and Standardized Field Sobriety Testing by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. He has led numerous DUI trainings for both law enforcement officers and attorneys.. In 2018, Michael was promoted to Unit Head of the Domestic Violence Unit. He supervised a team of Deputy Attorneys General, paralegals, administrative specialists, and social workers that handled misdemeanor and felony domestic violence, child abuse, and elder abuse cases. He was the Attorney General’s designee on the Fatal Incident Review Team, the Victim Services Advisory Committee, and the Domestic Violence Coordinating Council committees.. While in law school, Mike served as a Judicial intern for the Honorable Chief Justice Myron T. Steele of the Delaware Supreme Court. He also interned at the law firm of Kimmel, Carter.. When he is not zealously advocating for his clients, Mike is the head wrestling coach and coordinator of the St. John the Beloved youth wrestling program and volunteer assistant coach for Salesianum School’s wrestling team. I grew up in Northeast Missouri and graduated from Truman State University in 2002. I attended law school in Vermillion, South Dakota. While in law school in interned at the Federal Public Defender in Omaha.. Upon graduation I accepted a position at the Public Defender's Office in Sioux Falls, SD. During my 6 years at that office, I handled thousands of cases ranging from traffic tickets to serious felonies.. I have filed numerous pre-trial motions to keep specific evidence out at trial with the most public one being in 2013 where a successful pre-trial motion kept the prosecutors from using the term "abusive head trauma" on a shaken baby case.. I have also had numerous trials, both jury and bench trials, with great outcomes.. As I handled more and more cases I realized that a "win" was not necessarily a not guilty verdict (although those are fantastic), but helping clients to make major life changes. I have been able to get clients through diversion programs where they are able to move forward to receive degrees or professional certificates, to one client even opening her own business.. Leaving that office was tough because of the relationships I had made, but being able to work for myself and to put more time into every case has been just as rewarding.
