My partner Patrick and I practice primarly in the areas of criminal and DUI defense.  We are trial lawyers.  We handle every type of case, from the most serious felonies down to misdemeanor offenses in the Court of Common Pleas or Alderman's Court 40 in Newark, DE.  Even "minor" cases, such as a DUI, can have a lasting impact on your life, especially when it comes to employment.. Prior to joining Patrick in private practice, I clerked in the Superior Court of Delaware for the Honorable Jan R. Jurden.  Clerking for Judge Jurden provided an excellent foundation before going into private practice.  Working with judges on a daily basis behind the scenes provided invaluable insight.. Before I clerked, I graduted cum laude  from Widener University School of Law.  While there, I interned for Judge Jurden (first year), Gene Maurer, and Joe Hurley (second and third years).. In short, our practice is built on helping people when they need it most.  We're here for you.. Please give us a call or send me an email.. Here are a couple of articles about cases I'm currently working on:

I grew up in Northeast Missouri and graduated from Truman State University in 2002. I attended law school in Vermillion, South Dakota. While in law school in interned at the Federal Public Defender in Omaha.. Upon graduation I accepted a position at the Public Defender's Office in Sioux Falls, SD. During my 6 years at that office, I handled thousands of cases ranging from traffic tickets to serious felonies.. I have filed numerous pre-trial motions to keep specific evidence out at trial with the most public one being in 2013 where a successful pre-trial motion kept the prosecutors from using the term "abusive head trauma" on a shaken baby case.. I have also had numerous trials, both jury and bench trials, with great outcomes.. As I handled more and more cases I realized that a "win" was not necessarily a not guilty verdict (although those are fantastic), but helping clients to make major life changes. I have been able to get clients through diversion programs where they are able to move forward to receive degrees or professional certificates, to one client even opening her own business.. Leaving that office was tough because of the relationships I had made, but being able to work for myself and to put more time into every case has been just as rewarding.

Mike Wilson has devoted his career to protecting his clients, whether those clients have been charged with a crime or have been damaged by either negligence or intentional bad acts. Mike represents clients in criminal trials in both the State and Federal Courts, defending clients charged with everything from misdemeanors to murder. Of note are Mike’s results in the field of criminal appellate and postconviction practice, where he has obtained new trials for clients convicted of serious felonies, including both attempted murder and first-degree murder. Mike has argued many of these appeals before the Nebraska Supreme Court, the Nebraska Court of Appeals, and the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals. As a member of the Nebraska’s Regional Advisory Board for the Midwest Innocence Project, he works to obtain and support the exoneration and release of individuals wrongfully convicted in the Midwest.. Mike earned his B.S. from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln before accepting an academic merit scholarship to attend the Michigan State University College of Law, where he graduated in 2005 with Honors. While in law school, Mike served as a law clerk to the Hon. William Whitbeck, Chief Judge of the Michigan Court of Appeals, and as an Associate Editor of the Michigan State Law Review. Prior to joining the firm, Mike worked as the Executive Director of First Defense Legal Aid and as an appeals attorney at the Chicago branch of the Office of the Illinois State Appellate Defender, where he argued felony appeals before the Illinois Appellate Court.. In late 2009, Mike returned to his hometown of Omaha where he joined the firm of Schaefer Shapiro LLP. There, Mike honed his trial skills and gained experience in civil litigation, including civil rights and injury cases. In addition to winning new trials for clients appealing their felony convictions, Mike regularly obtained favorable results defending against criminal prosecutions at the trial level, including dismissals of drug cases and DUIs following successful motions to suppress evidence.. When he is not working hard for his clients, Mike enjoys coaching soccer and softball, attempting to play golf, and taking down the occasional pot in a friendly poker game.
