I have been licensed in Illinois since 1974, practicing in the Cook County State's Attorney's office for 3 years (1974 - 1977); My family lived on Long Island, New York for several years, so I also became licensed in New York in 1981 and worked for several years in the Queens District Attorney's Office (1985-1986); we returned to Illinois in 1986 and I worked in the Lake County State's Attorney's office from 1987 to 1991.. I have been in private practice since 1991.  My practice is a general practice -handling adoptions primarily, residential real estate closings, probate, guardianship (both disabled adults and minors), juvenile matters, preparation of wills and trusts. I am also an experienced criminal defense attorney and will accept clients with felony or criminal cases, including DUI and traffic violations.

I have handled highly contested custody cases, high net worth cases, cases involving family businesses, and all other varieties of family situations.  I represent litigants in domestic violence situations, obtaining and defending against orders of protection.  I am a friend to the LGBTQ community and supportive of all versions of family dynamics that require legal services in the domestic relations legal system.. I am certified to serve as a mediator and also have had training in the collaborative practice. I am also experienced in the areas of prenuptial and postnuptial agreements. I have been published in the ISBA Family law newsletter and the Illinois Bar Journal on a variety of subjects relevant to litigants and practitioners in the domestic relations field. I have tried and settled cases in Cook, Lake and DuPage counties.

John was born and raised in Spartanburg, South Carolina. He graduated from the University of South Carolina in 2003. He graduated from law school at the Charleston School of Law in 2007.. After graduating from law school, John went to work in a private practice. John spent the first five years of his legal career handling litigation in family, criminal, and personal injury matters.  In 2012, John joined this firm where his practice is devoted to family law, criminal law (which includes DUI’s), and injury cases. He is proud to be a resident of Spartanburg and is grateful to be a part of the Spartanburg legal community.. John attends church at the Episcopal Church of the Advent. Since 2011 John has served on the board of directors for Healthy Smiles of Spartanburg which is a charitable, nonprofit organization whose mission is to promote dental care through outreach, education, and free screenings for all children throughout the Spartanburg community, with a focus on the less fortunate.. Annabelle Robertson is an attorney, author & former award-winning journalist.. Born in Fayetteville, N.C., she graduated from high school in Raleigh then joined her parents in Switzerland, where she completed a French Baccalaureate in Philosophy and a 4-year degree from the University of Geneva School of Law. After her thesis, she interned at the United Nations in Geneva and joined Bank of America as corporate counsel, followed by Adia International, a Swiss multinational with 150+ companies in 38 countries, including Manpower USA.. In 1997, Annabelle completed a Master of Divinity in outreach & community development in Vancouver, Canada. She moved to Atlanta, Georgia, and volunteered for a homeless shelter, doing racial reconciliation & outreach while working full-time as a paralegal, to support her spouse. As a USAF chaplain's wife, she then accompanied him on military assignments. She worked as a freelance journalist and published her first book in 2006.. In 2008, Annabelle moved to South Carolina with her daughters, ages 2 and 5, where she wrote a front-page column for The Sumter Item, edited IRIS Magazine and became managing editor of The Clarendon Sun. She completed a LLM and was licensed to practice law in California. To stay in South Carolina, however, Annabelle had to complete a JD--which she did, as a single mom, full time at the University of South Carolina School of Law, while also running a long-distance law firm and litigating post-divorce family matters against her ex. During her studies, she became a court-appointed Guardian ad Litem and received both the prestigious CALI Award and the John O. McDougall Award for excellence in Family Law.. In 2018, Annabelle ran for Congress. In her progressive bid to unseat Rep. Joe Wilson (R-SC), she beat two male opponents and won the Democratic primary with 42% of the vote, but lost the mandatory runoff (to the second-place finisher) by just 714 votes. He lost the general election--easily handing Rep. Wilson his 10th consecutive term in Congress.. Annabelle officially opened her South Carolina practice in June. Her former campaign slogan--"Fighting for Working Families"--as the motto of her new law firm.
