I am a third-generation native of Madison County, Alabama.  At a young age I was a victim of a crime. The prosecutor in my case had such an impact on my life that I decided from that day forward, that I wanted to be a voice for those that cannot speak for themselves. It is for this reason, I attended law school, while maintaing a full-time job.  I graduated from Bob Jones High School in Madison, Alabama.  I first attended college at Martin Methodist College in Pulaski, Tn on an athletic softball scholarship.  I subsequently, transferred to Calhoun Community College where I received my Associate of Science degree in Corrections in 1994.  Upon completion of my A.S. degree I attended Athens State College, where I received my Bachelor of Science degree in Justice Studies in 1997.  Upon graduation, I decided to attend graduate school, and in 1999 I received my Master of Science degree in Criminal Justice.  After working in the legal field for eight years, I took a job as Program Director of the Criminal Justice department at a local college in Huntsville, Alabama.  In 2012 I made the decision to run for public office, where i was a candidate for Probate Judge of Madison County.  In 2012 I started Law School at Birmingham School of Law. I took both weeknight and weekend classes, and maintained a full-time job during law school.  I graduated from Law School in 2016, and was admitted to practice law in Decmeber 2018 as a member of the Alabama State Bar.

Born  into an Air Force family, Catherine grew up all over the world before deciding to lay roots in Alabama.  She graduated cum laude from The University of Alabama and received her Bachelor of Arts in both English and Psychology.. Catherine stayed in Tuscaloosa and obtained her Juris Doctorate from The University of Alabama School of Law. While in law school, Catherine participated in numerous community development programs and received the top grade in the Domestic Violence Clinic as a student lawyer.. Upon her graduation, Catherine secured employment as a law clerk to the Honorable James P. Smith of the 23rd Judicial Circuit. She is also a member of the Alabama State Bar, Madison County Bar Association, and the Madison County Volunteer Lawyers

Caleb W. Ballew joined the firm of Martinson & Beason as an associate attorney in October 2012. Caleb’s practice areas include divorce, domestic relations, criminal defense, general civil litigation and estate litigation.. Caleb was admitted to practice law in Alabama in 2010 and is a member of the Huntsville-Madison County Bar Association, the Family Law Section of the Alabama State Bar, and the Alabama Criminal Defense Lawyers Association. Caleb is also a contract attorney for the Alabama Education Association and enjoys representing public school teachers and administrators.. Caleb holds a B.A. from the University of Virginia and a J.D. from the University of Mississippi, where he graduated cum laude. In law school, he participated on his school’s Moot Court team, winning a number of litigation scholarships during his tenure there. He volunteered his time with his law school’s Innocence Project and worked as a research assistant for author Curtis Wilkie on the book The Fall of the House of Zeus.. Since starting as an associate with Martinson & Beason, P.C., Caleb has been honored to receive an award for volunteer lawyer of the month in Madison County, participated and graduated from the Diversity Leadership Colloquium, and was even a guest at the White House for a State Dinner in honor of the French President in 2014.. Caleb grew up in Roanoke Rapids, North Carolina and is the oldest of three children. Caleb is married to Kourtney Ikard Ballew, a native of Madison County and an attorney as well. He enjoys running and disc golf as hobbies in his spare time.

Mariam A. Irwin was born in Bethesda, Maryland and moved to Huntsville in 2003. Mari is a direct descendant of Benjamin Franklin on her father’s side of the family and a third-generation attorney on her mother’s side of the family.  She is named after her maternal great grandmother, whose husband ran a fruit cart in New York City in the late 1800s and early 1900s.. Mari attended undergraduate school in New Orleans, Louisiana.  She graduated in 2001 with a double major in Psychology and Sociology from Newcomb College at Tulane University.  While at Tulane, Mari wrote music reviews for the Tulane Hullabaloo and was a member of the school band.. After graduating from college, Mari worked as a legal assistant in a variety of law firms in Washington, DC and Huntsville, Alabama.. Mari graduated from Cumberland School of Law in 2008.  She was an active member of Cumberland’s Women in Law student organization, Trial Advocacy Board, and Cordell Hull Speaker’s Forum.  Mari was selected to be a Judge Abraham Caruthers Fellow, to assist first year students in their legal writing class.  While at law school, Mari focused on practical legal skills in her classes and through competing in and judging student competitions in the areas of mediation, client counseling, negotiation, and trials.. Immediately after passing the Alabama Bar Exam, Mari began working with the law firm of William P. Burgess, Jr., P.C., which specializes in all areas of family law.  In October of 2012, she opened her own family law practice.. Since she was first admitted to practice law, Mari has been an active member of her local Huntsville-Madison County Bar Association, as well as in statewide professional organizations.  She was a founding member of the Madison County Women’s Section in 2008 and chaired the section from 2010 through 2012.. From 2012 to 2013, Mari was a member of the Alabama Law Institute’s Collaborative Law Committee, which created state guidelines and statutes regarding the uniform use of collaborative law in this state. Since 2013, she has been a member of the Alabama Supreme Court Committee on Collaborative Law Rules of Procedure.. From 2014 through 2016, Mari was the North Alabama Regional Chair of the Family Law Section of the Alabama State Bar.. Outside of work, Mari enjoys spending time with her husband and her rescue dogs, following politics, researching her family genealogy, cooking, and reading.
