THE CURRENT LOVES OF MY LIFE - CHARLOTTE  AND LAURIE. Laurie is the one with the white chest and admiring herself in the mirror.  They are rescue dogs.  When Laurie was rescued she was pregnant and soon gave birth to 13 puppies -- 1 solid black, 3 or 4 black and white and the rest white with champaign ears.  Her last puppy was adopted out on the day I got her.. Charlotte is 2.  Laurie is 5.  They are wonderful and fill my home/office with joy and fun.. OTHER HOBBIES AND AVOCATIONS. I am a scrapbooker and I have all the gadgets.  It helps me keep my right and left brains balanced.. I am also a seminary student at Dallas Theological Seminary at the Houston Extension.  I am working on a master's degree in Christian Education.  Since all of the women in my family live to between 93 and 101, I am just preparing myself for the last third of my life.

Thank you for taking a few mintues to learn about me and perhaps help you decide if I can be of service to you for your legal needs.  I have been practing law since 2004.  Prior to actively practicing law, I worked as a police officer in Smryna, TN and later as a police officer in Nashville, TN, where I left as a Sergeant to pursue my law career.  I attended Motlow State Community College and achieved an Associates Degree in Social Science in 1994.  I then attended Middle TN State University and achieved a second Associates Degree in Law Enforcement as well as Bachelor Degrees in Criminal Justice, Psychology, and Sociology in 1998.  I attended the Nashville School of Law in the evenings while working full-time with the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department and graduated in 2004. I am married with two children and basically spend my free time playing chauffeur, driving them to their various sporting activities, therefore my hobbies are basically non-existent.  I do try to make it to the gym regularly, but that is the extent of my hobby like activiites!   My primary areas of focus are domestic relations including divorce, custody, child suport, and family adoptions as well as criminal defense at the state level.  I am also a Rule 31 family law mediator.

Born and raised in Nashville, Tennessee, I graduated high school from Ezell Harding Christian School in Antioch, Tennessee. I then attended Samford University, in Birmingham Alabama, and double majored in Political Science and History.. I received a full scholarship to Pepperdine School of Law and graduated in the top 3% of my class as the highest ranking female. I was inducted into the Order of the Coif and Order of the Barristers. While in law school, I received 7 CALI awards: Civil Procedure I; Contracts I; Criminal Law; Interviewing, Planning & Counseling; Criminal Procedure; Constitutional Structure; and Remedies. I was awarded the Faculty Scholar scholarship for academic excellence, and I also received the President's Scholarship.. Since graduation, I have chosen to focus my practice exclusively on Family Law related matters (which in my practice includes juvenile law, wills, powers of attorney and other needs your family may have throughout their lives). I have especially served as an advocate for fathers, representing many men throughout middle Tennessee, and advocating for them to receive maximum time with their children.

Bethany G. Shechtel is a native Washingtonian and grew up in Montgomery County, Maryland. Bethany is a graduate of Richard Montgomery High School, Towson University, College of Notre Dame of Maryland, and the University of the District of Columbia Law School.. Bethany comes to the legal profession with a strong background in education. Bethany worked for the better half of a decade as a teacher in both Baltimore City, Maryland, and Miami-Dade County, Florida, prior to entering law school.. Capitalizing on her experience and background in education, Bethany handles cases relating to family law, domestic violence, guardianship, juvenile, and special education matters.. Shortly after graduating from law school the American Bar Association published an article Bethany wrote on the use of neuroscience in juvenile criminal cases**.. Sobeloff Jewish Law Society and is active in the Montgomery County Women’s Bar Association. Mr. Velasco received his Juris Doctorate from Loyola Law School, Los Angeles and a BA from Loyola Marymount University.  He is a member in good standing of the State Bar of California, and is admitted to practice in the U.S. District Court, Central District of California.. Jorge Velasco began practicing Family Law with William Kermisch in 2005 as a law clerk and began working as an attorney for the firm after passing the bar exam in 2008.  Mr. Velasco worked with Neighborhood Legal Services of Los Angeles providing pro-bono Family law services to the local community during law school.  Mr. Velasco is a member of the Los Angeles County Bar Association, and State Bar of California Family Law Section..
