She attended Southern University at New Orleans and completed her Post-Baccalaureate in Mathematics Education, 1996. She graduated from Southern University at New Orleans with a Master of Science in Computer Information Systems, 2001. Shawon received her Juris Doctorate from Southern University Law Center in 2013. She was admitted to the Louisiana Bar in 2014. She is a member of the Louisiana State Bar Association.
