Megan House Wilson, a native Memphian, started her legal career working at a small firm in Memphis handling a variety of matters including landlord-tenant disputes, juvenile court matters, criminal defense and divorces. Megan enjoyed her work but quickly realized her passion was representing individuals entrenched in contested family law matters and in 2016 began focusing on serving clients in the areas of divorce, child custody, child support and post-divorce matters. The gratification Megan obtains from assisting her clients in oftentimes the most difficult time of their lives drives Megan to fiercely advocate for them in Court. Never one to back down from a fight, Megan quickly established herself as a rising star in the Memphis divorce bar regularly going toe to toe with some of Memphis’ so called “divorce sharks” and routinely obtaining favorable results for her clients at trial.. While she relishes the opportunity to take unreasonable litigants and attorneys to trial to achieve her clients’ desired results, Megan understands that protracted litigation sometimes only further fractures the family dynamic, particularly with minor children. Megan also appreciates that contested divorce can become expensive, and for that reason, she prides herself on always working closely with her clients from the outset of the representation to determine their objectives, assess the reasonableness of their goals and likelihood of success and establish a clearly defined game plan for moving forward. While some attorneys in the divorce bar plant unrealistic expectations in their clients’ minds, preying on their emotionally weakened state for their own financial gain, Megan listens closely to her clients and does everything within her power to resolve matters amicably outside of court when possible.. Megan brings the same tenacity and experience to her clients who are charged with criminal offenses and has extensive litigation experience representing individuals charged with misdemeanors and felonies in a variety of criminal defense matters. Being arrested or charged with a criminal act can be a terrifying experience, and Megan understands that sometimes bad things happen to good people. Megan also understands that her clients’ futures can be turned upside down if their cases are not dismissed, favorably resolved or result in acquittals. Megan’s clients come to her not only fearing potential jail time or having a black mark on their criminal records, but also fearing that their jobs may be at stake or potential job opportunities could be jeopardized as a result of the arrest. Understanding that the devil is in the details, Megan thoroughly analyzes her criminal clients’ defenses and works aggressively with state prosecutors to poke holes in their cases and expose “reasonable doubt” to achieve the best results for her clients.

Margaret Held has known she wanted to be a lawyer since she was 8 years old, hearing the stories of her grandfather’s practice in Knoxville. "When you decide to become a lawyer when you are a kid, it’s because you want to stick up for the little guy and take down the bully.". As a new attorney, that attitude landed Ms. Held a prestigious Equal Justice Fellowship, awarded by the National Association for Public Interest Law to honor lawyers who make unique contributions in public law. The Fellowship allowed Ms. Held to represent entrepreneurs and non-profit organizations to create and retain jobs in poor neighborhoods. "These folks could not afford corporate counsel," says Ms. Held. "It was great to be a new attorney, working up the legal documents to start a bank, suing the government over its use of economic incentives, and representing welfare moms to start businesses ranging from child-cares to ice cream parlors.". After the fellowship ended, Ms. Held continued her mission by founding Held Law Firm. "The Firm exists to support lawyers who have enough little kid in them to love the fight - who wake up each morning excited to take on the big boys, and who haven’t become cynical about ideals like justice and fair play.". Ms. Held represented India Tracy in her lawsuit against the Union County school system for religious discrimination. She represented Citizens for Police Review in its battle for increased accountability within KPD. She helped the Tennessee Industrial Renewal Network to fight for a living wage for Knoxville workers. She obtained a record-breaking settlement for a Department of Energy whistleblower who reported safety violations in Oak Ridge. She represented KnoxRecall in its drive for increased accountability from Knoxville city lawmakers, and Knox County over abuses within the juvenile detention facility. "I suppose that these sorts of lawsuits haven’t made me many friends in certain circles," laughs Ms. Held. "But they weren’t who I went to law school for anyway.". "But seriously," she continues, "As fun as those cases are, the issues that matter most to real people are much more personal. Law, for regular people, is about your kids, your job, your business, your neighborhood. That’s why we specialize in family law, employment law, and non-profit law." "My best hope is that we will take the mystery out of the legal process for my clients - that they will know how the legal system works, feel like they got sound advice and a good outcome, and know that, win or lose, we fought the good fight for them. Big cases are great, but there’s nothing more satisfying for me than to represent an honest, hard-working person well."

I have been practicing law since 1977. I have specialized in family law since 1984. I am the former chair of the Family Law Committee of the Monmouth Bar Association. In 1992, I was asked by the Bar Association to revise the rules governing the Early Settlement Panel in the Monmouth vicinage of the Superior Court of NJ. The rules I revised are still being used today. I have litigated thousands of divorces, including but not limited to contested custody cases, domestic violence cases, and post-judgment applications to enforce and/or modify property settlement agreements.. Each client brings a distinct set of issues, needs and problems. I do not believe that a client's needs can be met by characterizing such issues with generalities. Rather, each need must be analyzed and a specific solution crafted to meet that need. It is the easiest excuse in the world to blame inattentive Judges, difficult adversaries or vexatious litigants for bad results. I believe a client is better represented with honesty from an attorney from the start of the case to its conclusion.

For over 25 years, my legal career has been focused exclusively in the area of Divorce and Family Law. I represent clients in all aspects of divorce and family law matters, including divorce, custody, parenting schedules, support, equitable distribution, pre- and postnuptial agreements, and post-judgment proceedings.Sadly, the word "divorce" has become synonymous with "destruction." But it does not have to be that way. I believe that divorce can and should be a process of restructuring the financial and parental aspects of a family unit in the most cost effective way with the least amount of emotional distress as possible. To that end, my practice focuses on collaborative divorce, mediation, and negotiated settlement in litigated matrimonial cases as highly effective alternatives to adversarial litigation. My goal is to ensure that my client's interests are heard, understood and acknowledged so that the work of restructuring can occur and a fair settlement can be reached as early as possible. A strong advocate for families, I am certified in mediation from the Ackerman Institute for the Family and highly trained in Collaborative Interdisciplinary Practice from the New York Association of Collaborative Professionals. I am also a Special Master for the Nassau County Supreme Court, appointed by Judges to assist in resolving highly contentious matrimonial cases before trial. In addition to my professional legal experience, I am active in fundraising, philanthropy and community work through several organizations, including Girls Inc., Long Island, The Junior Welfare League of Huntington, The Safe Center, Hofstra University’s Women in Leadership Initiative, and the Energeia Partnership at Molloy College.
