Jeremey Poindexter was born and raised in the Midwest. He graduated from Aquinas College in Grand Rapids, Michigan, with a degree in political science. While attending college, he accepted a position in the Office of the Governor. This led to many other political and campaign positions over the next several years. In 2003, he enrolled at Western Michigan University Cooley Law School while continuing to work part-time at both the Michigan Attorney General’s Office and the Michigan Senate Majority Counsel office.. In 2006, upon graduating from law school, he moved to South Carolina. After opening his own practice, he joined Toussaint Law Firm, P.C., in 2007, and continued to practice there until he joined our firm. While at Toussaint Law Firm, P.C., Jeremey’s practice focused on family law and special needs law. He has handled cases ranging from simple one-year divorces to divorces with complex multi-million dollar asset divisions. He also has extensive experience in custody cases and termination of parental rights actions, including having been appointed as Guardian ad Litem on numerous cases. Mr. Barker and his wife, Dr. Lorna Barker, live in Mount Pleasant. They are working to usher their four children into adulthood. The Barkers are active members of Christ Church Mount Pleasant where Mr. Barker serves as the Senior Warden of the Vestry, sings in the choir, and is the drummer for the contemporary praise band.. Born in Virginia, Mr. Barker graduated from Virginia Tech as did his four siblings. After graduation, he accepted a commission in the United States Navy and was stationed aboard a warship in Charleston. He attained the rank of Lieutenant Commander before answering a calling into the legal profession.. Mr. Barker graduated cum laude from Pepperdine University School of Law in Malibu, California. He practiced in Los Angeles, California before returning to Charleston to raise his family and practice law.
