My journey to becoming a lawyer and advocate for families was anything but straightforward. It began with a deep desire to help others, leading me to a career in social work where I spent nearly a decade immersed in the complexities of the human experience. I witnessed firsthand the struggles individuals and families faced, and I knew I wanted to do more to empower them.. That calling led me to law school and then to a career as a legal aid attorney. I represented countless people in emotionally charged divorce, family, and order of protection cases. The weight of those experiences, particularly the prevalence of domestic violence, stayed with me.. Then, life took an unexpected turn. I went through my own divorce, a process that shook me to my core. Despite my legal training, I found myself trapped in a contentious battle that left my family wounded and my co-parent and me unable to effectively work together. The adversarial system, designed to protect, had instead caused immense harm.. That's when I made a promise to myself – to help others avoid the same trauma and outcome. I sought extensive training in mediation and collaborative divorce, determined to offer a different path. These approaches, focused on cooperation and mutual respect, resonated deeply with my values.. Today, I find immense fulfillment in guiding families through separation and divorce with compassion and understanding. Whether it's through mediation, collaborative law, or when necessary, litigation, my priority is to empower my clients to make informed decisions that protect their well-being and their future.. My commitment to helping others extends beyond family law. My experience with disability issues fuels my passion for creating comprehensive estate plans, particularly for families with special needs. This work is deeply personal to me. Having witnessed the challenges faced by individuals with disabilities and their families, I understand the importance of careful planning to ensure their security and well-being. I'm dedicated to crafting estate plans that provide for their unique needs and protect their future.

A Professional, Compassionate Approach. Peter strives to handle each of his clients with respect and compassion. “Most people don’t approach bankruptcy willingly and they are usually at their wits end. I try to understand their situation before laying out their options and hopefully laying out a path toward the fresh start they deserve,Nothing is more rewarding than watching a client realize they are nearing the end of their debt trap.” says Brackney.. Peter takes the same approach with his estate planning clients. Most individuals don’t like facing their own mortality, but doing so can bring peace of mind for both themselves and for the loved ones left behind.. Peter also represents Kentucky businesses from startup to wind down, and at all stages in between.. Beyond the Law. Peter was born in Ohio, but he grew up in Lexington and calls central Kentucky home. As a double alumnus of the University of Kentucky, he bleeds blue! He married his high school sweetheart and together they have three children. When he isn’t practicing law, Peter is a big history buff. His award-winning website, is about Kentucky’s rich history. He even wrote a book, Lost Lexington, about places in Lexington, Kentucky that have been “lost” to history. Peter is active in his community as well; he currently serves on the boards of both South Elkhorn Christian Church and The Blue Grass Trust for Historic Preservation.
The law firm was established in 2006. We specialize in Estate Planning, Elder Law, Real Estate, and Business Law.. I grew up in Wakefield, MA, went to Wakefield High from 1990-1994. I received the Salem State Presidential Scholarship for academics, and graduated Magna Cum Laude from the Salem State Honors Program in 1998 with a degree in criminal justice. The most important thing that the criminal justice curriculum is that I never wanted to be a criminal lawyer. I started Suffolk Law School straight out of college, determined to finish in three years, despite having to work nights and weekends. I went to school with kids whose parents put them up in apartments around the corner from school, while I was either taking the train or fighting the traffic. When I got out of class, I went to one of my two jobs, either the computer store in Woburn or the small Law Firm in Lynn.. Despite being exhausted most of the time, I graduated Suffolk after three years, in 2001. I actually took the bar exam and got married all in the same week (bar exam on Wednesday-Thursday, Rehearsal Dinner Friday, and wedding Sunday) and still managed to pass on my first try. I was sworn in to the Massachusetts Bar in January 2002.. My wife and I moved to Wilmington in 2003, and we have two children in the Wilmington school system.. I stayed on as an Associate with the Lynn firm until 2006, when I went out on my own, and opened the Law Office of Michael Monteforte Jr. in September 2006. The firm started out as a General practice, handling pretty much whatever came in the door, but over the years, I started to concentrate on the specific legal fields that I found to be fulfilling and challenging. I began to take continuing education classes that specialized in estate planning and elder law, and hones my expertise in those fields. The firm underwent a name change incorporated in 2017, now called Monteforte Law P.C. The firm specializes in Estate Planning, Elder Law, Real Estate, and Business. For any other areas of law, we can provide referrals, but we are accepting new cases only in those fields of law.
