I opened my own law practice in 1991 to help regular consumers with their basic legal needs. I form living trusts and write wills, do probate and trust administration and help consumers file chapter 7 and 13 bankruptcy cases.. I have represented over 1500 consumers since I first began my law practice. I always provide a free consultation and do most of my work on a flat fee basis. I graduated from Syracuse University with a Bachelor of Science in accounting in 1984. I passed the CPA examination in 1985. After spending his childhood in Oceanside and graduating from Oceanside High School, Richard Cornell went on to attend Loyola Marymount University graduating Cum Laude and then recieved his Juris Doctorate from the University of San Diego School of Law.

My practice  is focused in Estate Planning, Probate, Trusts and Wills and Living Wills. It was an easy parallel move from all my work with financial planning, and after a few months of study I was ready to help people.. That is my primary goal for my clients after retiring as a Navy Captain, finishing thirty years Active and Reserve in March 2015.. Background:  I was raised in Tucson, Arizona and Whittier, California.   I opened our Chicago, Illinois office in 1995 and the Portland, Oregon office in 2001.  Our family is 13th generation members of the Society of Friends (people known as "Quakers").  While attending Whittier High School, I was an Eagle Scout, an AFS exchange student to Malaysia and the section head for percussion for the WHS Marching Band (we marched in the 1968 Presidential Inaugural Parade in Washington, DC for Richard Nixon).. I enjoy playing music (piano, guitar and percussion), sailing, soccer (including futsol), T'ai Chi Chuan, hiking (I hiked up the South Sister, Oregon summit recently), skiing, snorkeling, classic languages (mostly Latin), databases (particularly Filemaker), web page design and wikis.. I was the president of the Arbor Parent Teacher organization for the Arbor School in Tualatin, Oregon that all three of my children attended.

While licensed in New Jersey and Pennsylvania since 1993, I have focused my practice in New Jersey. I began my law career working for the Honorable John A. Fratto, a criminal law judge in Camden County, New Jersey. From there I worked for a prominent civil litigation defense firm until I found my calling as a Camden County Prosecutor.            Working for then prosecutor Lee Solomon, I developed my negotiation and litigation skills as well as an ability to work with people from many different backgrounds. After six years at the prosecutor's office, I was hired to work as a Deputy Attorney General for the New Jersey Division of Criminal Justice in the Organized Crime and Racketeering Bureau. Here I gained experience in the legal aspects of the investigative stages of a criminal prosecution and dealing with the real life criminal underworld. After almost a decade of practicing criminal law and working for the government, I decided to open my own law practice with a focus on Estate Planning.            For the past six years, I have been helping my clients create their estate plans and the legal documents required to solidify those plans. I am always proud of my clients who have taken the time to complete and update their estate plans because this is such an important aspect of their family and financial well being.              During this time, I was fortunate to have also been employed as General Counsel for a medium sized mortgage banking company where I managed the legal matters the company faced on a daily basis. The majority of my time was spent on Employment Law and Mortgage and Banking Law compliance issues. Compliance was so important due to the volume of existing laws and regulations. This is when I realized how important it is for all companies to make sure that their policies and procedure are compliant with the laundry list of federal and state employment laws and regulations they may be subject to. Brandon L. McGee is the co-owner of the McGee Law Firm. Born and raised in Dallas, Texas, Brandon attended Texas Christian University, where he earned his B.A. in 1998. He graduated from Emory University School of Law in 2001.. After law school, Brandon headed back to the Lone Star State to practice law. Here, he met his wife, Rita, who is a fee attorney for Capital Title. Brandon and Rita are the proud parents of twin teen boys. Yes, you read that correctly, “twin teen boys.” Raising twin boys keeps the McGee home hopping, and that is why weekends at the McGee home are a frenzied flurry of fun activity. Tom attended Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri, where he earned his Bachelor of Science in Engineering and was awarded his law degree thereafter. After law school, he spent two wonderful years as a professional musician, playing banjo with Your Father’s Mustache in nightclubs across the United States. He still enjoys occasional performances with Antioch's Dixie Dudes.. Tom eventually landed in Chicago, passed the Illinois bar in 1968 and has dedicated his life to the practice of law ever since. He was admitted to the Wisconsin Bar in 1980 and remains one of just a few attorneys practicing daily in two different states. His fluency in both states’ laws, especially in family law and bankruptcy law has proven an invaluable aid to clients in interstate matters.. In 1994, Tom was admitted to the Federal bar in Michigan and participated in the Embrace Systems case, a famous Grand Rapids bankruptcy trial for which the opinion is 42 pages long. He is also licensed in Missouri.. Tom's unique skill is his ability to rapidly assimilate the details of a case, providing a quick analysis and response to nearly any legal issue presented. I am often asked why I practice in an area of law that is filled with so much sadness, grief, and heart-wrenching conversations. It’s a legitimate question especially if you know me. The truth is, I am very emotional. I am a crier; I feel my emotions strongly. I am immensely empathetic to people. After the passing of my uncle, I saw these descriptors of myself not as flaws anymore but as true strengths...strengths others could rely on and depend on.. Good and bad “things” happen every day to every one of us. These “things” are what make us who we are. How we allow the “things” to affect our lives is what shapes our future. My uncle’s passing twenty years ago was my “thing”. It was the “thing” that mapped out my future.. My uncle had a great sense of humor and a lackadaisical attitude about life. The kids in the neighborhood called him the “Candy Man” because every time he came to visit, he would have a trunk full of candy to pass out to all of us! He never forgot a birthday…ever!!! Without fail there would be money taped to the inside of our card with a “silly self-portrait” he would draw of himself.. My uncle was happy to a fault. Nothing ever concerned him; nothing ever had a sense of urgency for him. Life was life and it was what it was going to be. He was a happy man during his life. The unanswerable question has always been and will always be…was he happy at the end of his life? I don’t know the answer to that and yet I was there when he took his last breath. I think of him often and always wonder what he must have been thinking? Was his pain anything like the heartache his family went through having to watch him slowly lose a little bit of himself?. I questioned so much; questions which after twenty years still cannot be answered. Was he regretting brushing me aside when I would try to talk to him about getting his documents in place? If he had to do it over again, would he? Would it make a difference to him knowing at the end how emotionally beaten my father was after he died? Would he have done anything differently if he knew the heartbreak his family would suffer not being able to help him with his pain? What if he knew those that he held dear to his heart would be petty about the “stuff” he left behind?. It was gut-wrenching to see my father watch his brother die and wonder what my uncle was thinking as he saw us all by his bedside. Was he proud of the funeral and service we had for him or was he up in Heaven laughing at all of us because we were all such emotional fools? Did we do what he wanted?. No family should ever have to live with the burden of having to make the decisions my father had to make. We felt alone and hopeless with so many questions yet no one made any efforts to answer any for us. No one should live with doubt; always asking themselves if they did the right thing. No loved one should bear the pain of watching a family member die when there are so many alternate ways in which to manage their end of life.. Julie received her bachelor of science in child development with honors from Michigan State University and her juris doctor degree from Wayne State University. While attending Wayne State University, she served as a student attorney at the Free Legal Aid Clinic in Detroit and as a student intern for the Honorable Gerald R. Rosen, United States District Court - Eastern Division of Michigan.. Julie entered the legal field in 2001 as a legal assistant working for a firm practicing in estate planning, business law, bankruptcy, real estate and general civil litigation. From there, she moved to an insurance defense firm, working primarily on municipal defense, such as police excessive force cases. She then worked for a firm practicing business law, probate and estate planning.. The experience she gained in working at these firms, together with her education and social work experience, equipped Julie with the expertise needed to develop her own practice serving clients in probate, estate planning and business law.

Melissa graduated from Norwich University in 2002 with her Bachelors of Arts in Criminal Justice. She received her Master in Criminal Justice from the University of Massachusetts-Lowell in 2004 and finished her Juris Doctorate degree in 2011 from Massachusetts.. Melissa was admitted to practice law in Massachusetts in 2011, and in New Hampshire in 2014. She has built her practice to give each of her clients individual attention in an effort to get to know them and to learn about their personal needs.

Jonathan is a lifelong resident of Lexington & Rockbridge County. After finishing his law degree at Washington & Lee University he worked as a Contract Negotiations Specialist and a Financial Planner for a Fortune 500 company before starting Tarris Law in 2016.. Since starting Tarris Law, Jonathan has defended hundreds of clients in courts across Virginia including as an associate Public Defender, formed dozens of successful businesses, and attained favorable judgements in over 80% of his civil matters.. In his spare time Jonathan enjoys spending time outdoors, working his family farm, coaching youth basketball and volunteering on a variety of community boards and commissions.. Kara grew up in Steelville, MO. She attended Evangel University and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Psychology, while also completing some master’s-level counseling coursework. Following graduation, she attended Regent University School of Law in Virginia Beach, Virginia, where she focused on Estate Planning and Elder Law. Kara’s legal internships include clerking at the American Center for Law and Justice, interning at a small law firm in Virginia, and interning in the estate planning branch of a medium-sized law firm also in Virginia. Kara is excited to be back in Springfield with her husband, Nathen, and their children, Parker and Paisley. She joined Parks & Jones as a licensed attorney in the spring of 2016.
