John was born and raised in Spartanburg, South Carolina. He graduated from the University of South Carolina in 2003. He graduated from law school at the Charleston School of Law in 2007.. After graduating from law school, John went to work in a private practice. John spent the first five years of his legal career handling litigation in family, criminal, and personal injury matters.  In 2012, John joined this firm where his practice is devoted to family law, criminal law (which includes DUI’s), and injury cases. I have handled highly contested custody cases, high net worth cases, cases involving family businesses, and all other varieties of family situations.  I represent litigants in domestic violence situations, obtaining and defending against orders of protection.  I am a friend to the LGBTQ community and supportive of all versions of family dynamics that require legal services in the domestic relations legal system.. I am certified to serve as a mediator and also have had training in the collaborative practice. I am also experienced in the areas of prenuptial and postnuptial agreements. I have been published in the ISBA Family law newsletter and the Illinois Bar Journal on a variety of subjects relevant to litigants and practitioners in the domestic relations field. Jeremy Spitzer is a resident of Lake County and dedicates his practice to serving the community of Lake County.  He has spoken at several legal conferences on topics from non-parent custody and visitation, Landlord/Tenant evictions, to appointing Guardians for disabled adults, to representing minor children in a contested divorce.. He is a member of both the Illinois State Bar Association and Lake County Bar Association, is a certified mediator as well as a certified Guardian Ad Litem/Child Representative. In that role he is appoined by the Court to represent Lake County's minor children or disabled adults in contested matters.

I have been licensed in Illinois since 1974, practicing in the Cook County State's Attorney's office for 3 years (1974 - 1977); My family lived on Long Island, New York for several years, so I also became licensed in New York in 1981 and worked for several years in the Queens District Attorney's Office (1985-1986); we returned to Illinois in 1986 and I worked in the Lake County State's Attorney's office from 1987 to 1991.. I have been in private practice since 1991.  My practice is a general practice -handling adoptions primarily, residential real estate closings, probate, guardianship (both disabled adults and minors), juvenile matters, preparation of wills and trusts. I am also an experienced criminal defense attorney and will accept clients with felony or criminal cases, including DUI and traffic violations.

I have practiced exclusively in the area of family law for my entire legal career. I have extensive experience in all aspects of family law, including divorce, allocation of parenting time and parental responsibilities, removal of children across state lines or internationally, child support, maintenance, property identification and distribution, high asset marital estates, qualified domestic relations orders, post-decree matters, parentage cases and appellate matters.. I earned my undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, Michigan, in 2004  in Economics and Psychology. I then attended law school and earned my J.D., cum laude, from Notre Dame University, South Bend, Indiana, in 2007. During law school, I was awarded the Dean Konop award for excellence in my work as a GAL for minor children and was selected as a member of the Journal of Legislation. Active in the legal community, I am a member of the Illinois State Bar Association and DuPage County Bar Association. Additionally, I serve as a volunteer alumni recruiter for the University of Michigan. Megan is a long time resident of DuPage County, having graduated from St. Francis High School, in Wheaton, Illinois. She attended the University of Arizona, where she majored in Political Science. During her undergraduate studies, she received honors such as the Academic Award of Distinction and initiation into Pi Sigma Alpha, a political science honorary.  Megan was also selected for a legislative internship with U.S. Senator Jon Kyl.  Additionally, she was active in College Republicans and the Catholic Newman Center Club.. At Michigan State University College of Law, Megan made the Dean’s List.   As a student clinician for the Housing Law Clinic, she represented low income clients with complex landlord-tenant and foreclosure issues.  She was a research assistant for Professor Brian Gilmore, head of the Housing Law Clinic. While at law school, she also participated in clubs such as the Christian Law Society and the Federalist Society.. During an internship with the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office, she worked in the DUI courtroom, representing the State of Illinois pursuant to IL Sup. Ct. Rule 711.. Megan is a certified Guardian ad Litem in DuPage County for Family Law and Probate. As a member of the American Bar Association, Illinois State Bar Association, the DuPage County Bar Association, and the Chicago Bar Association, she is an active member of the legal community.  Her husband, Brandon, is also an attorney. They are active members of St. Michael’s Parish and St. Daniel's Parish in Wheaton. They volunteer for non-profit organizations such as the ALS Association (Chicago Chapter).
