I am a native Oregonian. I began my legal career at Hart Wagner in 1994, and became a partner of the firm in 1999.  I have focused primarily on defending medical malpractice lawsuits throughout the Northwest for the past two decades. In my practice, I assist hospitals and clinics with pre-litigation evaluations, as well as with their early disclosure and resolution programs.  I frequently represent physicians, dentists, pharmacists and nurses before state licensing boards.. I am an experienced medical malpractice trial attorney, and have tried more than 125 jury trials in state and federal courts. My practice focuses on medical malpractice defense, health law, and employment defense, and I have tried numerous “wrongful” death and catastrophic injury cases, as well as large numbers of severe injury cases ranging from complex surgical complications to brain injuries to alleged delayed diagnosis of cancer. My clients include medical, dental, and nursing professionals and organizations in arbitrations, mediations, and numerous regulatory matters.. Since joining Hart Wagner in 2002, I have developed an active trial practice in which I represent Oregon Health & Science University in medical and dental malpractice lawsuits, as well as a host of other hospitals, clinics, physicians and dentists in Oregon, including, as examples, physicians insured by CNA and The Doctors’ Company, clinics such as The Oregon Clinic and The Portland Clinic, and hospitals such as Adventist Health, Tuality Hospital, and Kaiser Foundation. I also represent Rite Aid pharmacies in pharmacy litigation and have developed a practice defending food-borne illness cases. I have been retained by the State of Oregon Department of Justice to represent various medical professionals in complex civil rights cases involving medical issues.. In 1980, I became Trial Counsel for Oregon Health & Science University, where I was OHSU’s trial attorney through 2002, with exclusive responsibility for trial defense of all medical, nursing, and dental malpractice claims and lawsuits against the University and its faculty and students during those two decades.. In 1977, I became Assistant Attorney General in the Trial Division of the Oregon Department of Justice, where I gained early litigation experience defending the State of Oregon in a wide variety of trials involving personal injury, civil rights, and complex litigation. The range of trial issues included claims against the State involving alleged use of excess force or false arrest by State Troopers, alleged failure to prevent child abuse of children who were wards of the State, car crashes involving cars driven by public employees, car crashes because of missing stop signs or icy roads or highway construction/design, and injuries and deaths from accidents at State parks.. When not practicing law, I spend as much time as possible in and around water. I have rafted most of the rivers in the Pacific Northwest and led private groups down the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon on three different multi-week trips. I have recently developed a passion for standup paddling on local lakes and rivers and also love to sail.  As much as time permits, I can be found on my Sabre 426 sailboat in the Puget Sound, leeward rail buried, sails trimmed and full, grinning from ear to ear.

Nathan graduated cum laude from Salmon P. Chase College of Law at Northern Kentucky University in 2022. While at Chase, he served as the Lead Education Editor with the Northern Kentucky Law Review. Nathan started working at The Lawrence Firm, PSC in 2021 as a law clerk, before being hired as an attorney following graduation. He represents individuals and families that are physically and emotionally injured by the negligence of another. He is currently licensed in Ohio and Kentucky.

I am a trial lawyer and litigator, and I have been practicing law for 20 years.  My practice focuses on the defense of professional malpractice (including medical, dental, legal, real estate and construction litigation), premises liability, products liability, motor vehicle and general liability claims.

My law practice focuses on legal malpractice defense, medical malpractice defense, health law, and appellate law.. Before joining the Hart Wagner law firm, I worked in a prominent family law firm, where I learned how to navigate challenging issues while being a strong advocate for my clients. During that time, I managed a high-volume caseload and gained invaluable courtroom experience.. I earned my law degree from Willamette University College of Law in 2011. During law school, I was a clinical and research assistant for Professor W. Warren H. Binford, assisting in complex civil litigation and editing law review submissions. In addition, I clerked in a criminal defense practice where I acquired experience in juvenile dependency, Measure 11 sentencing, and Constitutional issues.

I am a trial lawyer and litigator.  My practice focuses on medical malpractice defense with a subspecialty in birth injury claims, and representing medical professionals before their licensing boards.. Growing up in the Portland area and being raised by a certified nurse midwife, I appreciate the demands on and motivations behind medical professionals in their line of work. This gives me unique insight into birth injury cases as well as a wealth of knowledge and expertise which I bring to Hart Wagner's medical malpractice defense team.. Prior to joining Hart Wagner, I worked as a legal assistant, paralegal and contract attorney for a small plaintiff's law firm which helped me learn the practice of law from the bottom to the top. As a certified law student, I worked at the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office where I obtained early trial experience trying criminal misdemeanor cases to judge and jury. I then clerked for Judge Kantor where I learned the eccentricities of the Multnomah County court system.. When I'm not in the office, you'll find me cooking, reading, and camping with my husband and three beautiful children.

Kira specializes in products liability, professional negligence, and personal injury litigation. She also has diverse experience serving as litigation counsel for individuals and companies of all sizes and in a variety of contexts, including business torts, fiduciary relationships, and a range of contract disputes.

Alex joined Duke Scanlan & Hall as an associate attorney in March 2018, and practices mainly in medical malpractice & other professional liability defense, insurance defense, and employment law. Alex grew up in the Denver, Colorado area. As an undergraduate, he worked as a legal assistant in firms whose practice areas include divorce & custody, evictions, debt collection, fair housing defense, and criminal defense. As a law student, Alex participated in national competitions as a member of the Moot Court Bar and spent a year working as a law clerk in the South Carolina Attorney General’s Office where he assisted in prosecuting homicide, internet crimes against children, drug crimes, insurance fraud, and public corruption cases. Alex was also a two-time CALI Award winner at USC, having earned the high grade in both Advanced Legal Writing and Trial Advocacy. Outside the office, Alex balances two oppositional passions: spending time with his family and playing golf.
