Work Place Injury Hospital Bill From 2024
workers compensation attorney South Carolina Jul 22, 2026
Not sure if this is the right flair Location: South Carolina In october of 2024 i had a workplace accident that required surgery. Since it was a workplace injury, all the bills were covered by workers comp. For some context, as anyone who has had to deal with workers comp knows, it is a PAIN to get anything done, and i mean a pain. I have literally hundreds of calls between my case worker and the billing department of the hospital to make sure everything was getting paid. And it was a PROCESS. FINALLY by may of 2025, everything is settled. Its been a slog. I call and double check FOUR times that everything has been paid so that workers comp can close my case. It is confirmed all four times. There is nothing left to pay in my mychart, i dont have bills coming at me in the mail anymore. I breathe a sigh of relief. Surely its over now. I got my settlement in february 2026. Awesome sweet its really over now, i don't have to think about this anymore. Fast forward to June 2026, this year. Well over a year since the injury, and a year after my case is closed, i get a notice that i have an overdue bill. Well that's impossible, i think to myself, i haven't been to the hospital since, so that doesn't make any sense. I log into my chart and lo and behold there's a bill, from october 2024, issue dated in JUNE 2026?!? Well surely this must be an error. I call the billing department, and they tell me, oh yes, we see here that you have your gaurantor, we'll deal with this right away. It should be removed from your account in 2 weeks. Okay cool. Two weeks pass, and it's still in there. I call again. They give me the same answer, they're working on it, NO ONE can tell me why this bill magically appeared after almost 2 years. This week it went into collections. I call again. Nobody can tell me anything. Im told they will call me back when they figure it out. It has now been 2 days and to be honest, i'm at a loss. Can they hold me accountable for this if my workers comp case is closed? Am i doomed to pay this? Do i need to contact a lawyer? Im really really frustrated because i truly thought i was done with this, it was rather traumatizing for me to begin with and i really just thought this was all over. I'd truly really appreciate any advice. I plan on calling first thing in the morning again, but with how much of a runaround they are giving me, im not sure if anything will change.
