Reckless driving in Virginia advice

Location: Fairfax Virginia I got pulled over on i-495 for going 85 in a 55 but I was not weaving or doing anything dangerous besides the speeding. I also made sure to be respectful to the officer and only have one excessive speeding ticket in Maryland on my record with no points (it may have been dropped I forgot). Although I would prefer to not pay attorney fees as I am a college student, I am much more worried about the misdemeanor going on my record. Do I have a good chance of representing myself or should I hire a lawyer?
