Employer wants us to sign an arbitration agreement

employment attorney New York Aug 25, 2026
Location: New York State For context, i work in retail in New York state but this seems to be company wide. We received in our workday inboxes a task to sign an arbitration agreement. Essentially there is no way to opt out. Specifically says that “by signing below OR continuing your employment for at least 30 days after receiving this agreement, you and the company are agreeing to waive the right to have claims heard in court and the right to participate in a class action or similar collective proceeding.” Working in retail, obviously people aren’t able to just always pick up and start a new job, we have bills to pay. I guess my question is how legal is it that there’s no opt out option other than to end employment with the company?
