Car Loan Under My Name but Ex has it

Yeah I know, stupid (Location: California) But essentially the car loan is under my name, same with registration and all that. He's been missing payments and I really don't feel like keeping that car as I have my own. I'm planning on selling it once I have it in my possession. I've got Gap insurance, thankfully. But the issue is that it's in his possession, granted he parks on the streets so no private parking I believe (he doesn't live out of state in CA, he lives in a different city). Moreover, there's only one key and he has it. I just need advice on steps I should take for extracting the car out of his hands without jeopardizing the value of it, so I can just close this whole issue up.
