Bought a flooded car in CA

California Jul 26, 2026
Location: CA Here are the facts: Seller initially posted falsified carmax offer on fb Deleted it once I called out I paid Toyota to do a pre purchase inspection and no flood was indicated. Car had 3 issues per Toyota, tire change, brake fluid change and ac refresh owing to ac smell. I asked about the rust I saw and was told the technician deemed it only to be surface rust. I took a look at the carfax, inquired about wire harness changes and I was told that a rat ate it. Specified also in the Toyota work order Asked about seat stains etc and was told kids caused a mess. Asked about a two year gap in carfax and was told seller did the maintenance himself Car is 75k miles, and seller had a transferrable extended warranty Looking at the facts and no issues from PPI I bought the car for 30k Now while I’m getting detailing and other maintenance stuff done I keep noticing rust inside the car as I remove compartments or under the seat etc. I’m taking it to a mechanic to get second opinion and get proof that seller knew about the flood and did try to hide it by cleaning the car/engine etc and didn’t disclose it When I have the aforementioned proof, do I have a path here to get my money back? I’m in California and the seller was a private party and the car was sold to me as a clean title.
