TN Employment Law Question
Tennessee Jul 26, 2026
Greetings! My Location: Tennessee My wife is a tech at a mental health facility in TN. From what I gather, the place is miserable. I want to ensure she gets legal advice if what I believe is aligned with what amounts to several violations of employment law. The facility mandates a ratio of 5:1 patients to techs at worst. Tonight, along with several other nights, my wife and many others are subjected to far more of a slanted ratio. In fact, her ratio tonight is 19:1. She's required to conduct several in person reviews in wings where violent men are housed, and can be assaulted in many ways. She's been spat on, physically attacked, verbally assaulted, and leadership is nowhere to be found. The nurses, sit in a secluded office surrounded by ballistics level glass safely. Techs such as my wife cannot. Nurses are asleep, techs cannot. Techs receive bonuses for taking shifts, techs do not. Apparently, those bonuses were designed to entice techs to pickup additional shifts. If the bonuses are not given out, the nurses divide the spoils at the end of the month. One of the high ranking leaders uses profanity to address situations at work, towards employees, and voices go unheard. My wife sent an anonymous and direct email to corporate, nothing happened. My wife sent a direct email to the corporate team with 0 transparency, and nothing happened. I told her to never resign in these situations, but to maintain her position while documenting all to ensure she is protected from retaliation, which appears apparent. Should she go on and, with all this evidence, contact the EEOC and/or other legal counsel now or wait until discipline comes down?
