I am a charter member of the Alabama State Bar's Elder Law bar section. I don't practice divorce or criminal defense or bankruptcy or real estate closings or immigration law. All I do, every day, is work with seniors and their adult children, to give them all peace of mind that all the dangers that might lie ahead have been addressed. We have a full-time Social Worker on our team too, and her job is to take care of our clients whenever they have a non-legal need arise. Many of our clients have children who have moved away and they have no close family to help them. My Social Worker becomes their surrogate daughter- taking them to the doctor's appointments, helping them balance their checkbook, supervising sitters and arranging regular Facetime calls with the kids, wherever they might be. Just a little something extra we provide our clients.

I'm a former speech-language pathologist (SLP) who is passionate about helping the elderly population. As an SLP, I worked in skilled nursing facilities, and I came to deeply care about the individuals and families who were forced to navigate the complex world of long-term care. It can be so overwhelming. I love being able to help make that process a little bit simpler as an attorney.. I also love helping anybody and everybody get a basic estate plan in place. The relief I see in people's eyes once they've gotten their documents signed, knowing everything will be taken care of if something should happen to them, never gets old! It's one of those tasks you know you should do but just never quite get around to doing. We make the process so easy and approachable.. My personal interests include running, triathlons, cooking, and listening to podcasts.

A primary focus of my practice is helping families work through the complicated and confusing process of obtaining Medicaid nursing home benefits for their parents, spouses, and loved ones by counseling them on the Medicaid eligibility rules and by taking on the burden of filing and prosecuting their applications for benefits.. As an Elder Law attorney, I also advise clients on planning for future disability, though the use of durable powers of attorney, living trusts, living wills, and other means of delegating management and decision making to others in the case of incompetency or incapacity.. I also work with clients as they age to address their estate planning issues, including planning for the management of their property and assets during their lifetimes and the disposition of those assets on death through the use of trusts, wills, and other planning documents.. Other services provided include:. I work and reside in Gardendale, Alabama. I grew up in Alexander City, Alabama and graduated from Benjamin Russell High School in 1991. I received my Bachelor of Science degree in 1995 from the University of North Alabama in Florence, Alabama and my Juris Doctor degree in 1999 from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.. I grew up on a farm and loved it. I now live in town and love assisting people. I especially enjoy Elder Care issues. I have always done some work in this field. I now do this exclusively. I had to go through this when my Grandmother needed nursing home. It was a difficult porcess to say the least.. I was asked by the Probate Judge to assist with an elderly couple who had no family and the wife needed nursing home care. The husband was a WWII Veteran which made it all the more important that he be treated well. I studied the rules, bought books and attended classes to be able to assist them. It worked out favorably.. Shortly after that I was contacted about another similar situation. Thanks to continued personal referral from clients and their families I am able to devote my practice to assiting the Elderly and Veterans.
