I'm Cody Hayes and I operate a law firm dedicated to helping people become unmarried without ruining the rest of their lives. I was a teenager when my mother and stepfather transitioned out of their marriage.. As a family, we were always doing things together: Sailing trips to Catalina Island; Hiking and backpacking through every tiny canyon and stream we could find, and mountain biking and rollerblading together as a family all over the city. My twin brother and I had the time of our lives.. I remember how confusing it was to have been there through all those good times, only to find myself with two parents who no longer wanted to be with each other. It was hard for me to understand why it wasn’t worth it for them to try again.. My parents encouraged me and my brother to ask questions. And they gave us honest answers. In the end, I remember asking each of them independently if they could see any way possible to stay their own ways, each of my parents helped me understand that being apart from one another was what would make them the happiest.. I couldn’t argue with that. I didn’t like it and it wasn’t my preference, but I could respect their decision because I knew it was the truth.. As time went on, I came to realize that the relationship I had with my parents didn’t depend on them being together at all.. And they were right about their happiness. By transitioning out of their dysfunctional marriage and moving forward with their individual lives, they became more relaxed, more joyous, and easier to be around. They both refocused on what was important to themselves and began to accomplish their personal goals again.. In a dysfunctional marriage, nobody wins. Moving forward with their lives made it possible for my parents to be happy, and enabled them to support me and my brother in ways they couldn’t have managed if they had stayed together.. I am an Arizona native. I am a graduate of Paradise Valley High School and Arizona State University. My undergraduate decree from ASU was in Business Finance, which involves great attention to detail. For those that are curious, a business finance degree covers areas of financial markets, investments, business financial statements, accounting and financial analysis of business and business projects. This type of study has been very helpful in my practice as a family law attorney.. After ASU, I continued my education in North Carolina, to obtain my law degree. During my time in law school, I spent my summers externing with the Arizona Attorney General's Office and with the family division of the Maricopa County Superior Courts. My time working with family law judges has given me great insight as to how to handle my cases and how to present them to a judge. Upon graduation from Law School in 2011, I have focused my practice only on Family Law matters.. Aside from my education and profession, I have been married for more than a decade and have four (4) wild boys that keep me busy and tired, when I am not helping people with their family law issues. Having a family and children of my own, I recognize the importance of the family relationship and maintaining those relationships between parent and child.

I like assisting people in one of the most traumatic legal problems that they face, and enjoy the challenge of finding a resolution that works for them, and if there is not one, taking the case to trial..
