Jeffrey D. Moy, a U.S. Registered Patent Attorney and electrical engineer, has practiced intellectual property law since 1994. A partner based in our firm’s Scottsdale office, Mr. Moy’s expertise includes computer architecture, analog and digital circuitry and semiconductor fabrication and packaging. Mr. Moy prepares and prosecutes U.S. and foreign patent applications in the electrical and mechanical arts with over 350 U.S. Patents issued from applications he has prepared. Before becoming an attorney, Mr. Moy worked as an electrical engineer and project manager for Texas Instruments in Dallas. As project manager, Mr. Moy was responsible for comprehensive engineering design projects related to clean room design. He set project parameters, evaluated compliance with project and engineering standards and approved final designs and installations. He oversaw, reviewed and approved the work of external engineering design and planning consultants. Mr. Moy also ensured that engineering designs were consistent with contract specifications and all relevant regulations and engineering standards.

My favorite part of being a lawyer is hands down the connections I’m able to form with my clients. I’ve always been a people person, and I love the personal aspect of advocating on behalf of someone. I’ve been fortunate enough to attend a top law school and work in a variety of law firms and offices, representing everyone from everyday Arizona locals to large, multinational corporations. I’ve represented insurance companies and gained invaluable insight into how they operate and evaluate cases. Though I’m thankful for the experience, I much prefer representing the underdog.. My approach to cases is to, in a sense, work backwards. I work in collaboration with my clients to come up with the ideal result and then figure out the most straightforward route to get there. From there, my job is to execute on that strategy without cutting corners, while always keeping the lines of communication open.. Outside of work, I’m constantly challenging myself with new hobbies. On any given day you can find me golfing with friends, working on my Brazilian jiu-jitsu, cooking, or playing my guitar.

Matt earned degrees in physics and business-economics at Brown University before embarking upon a career as a technical consultant for Accenture, where he worked on large software installation projects, working with ERP solutions such as SAP and Oracle for large corporate clients such as GE, BSC and EMC2.  In pursuit of patent law, Matt returned to Arizona to earn a joint JD/MBA from the University of Arizona, where he worked in the physical sciences department of the UA Office of Technology Transfer.  In addition, Matt spent time as an extern in the chambers of Chief Judge Stephen M. McNamee, District Court of Arizona, and assisted in the resolution of a complex patent litigation dispute in the field of aeronautics.  Matt has experience in patent consulting and patent landscaping, running an exploratory patent research project involving optical disk storage technologies.  Matt has years of experience in patents and intellectual property at a top-rated intellectual property (IP) boutique where he was involved in obtaining, defending and enforcing IP.  Matt thrives on supporting small and growing businesses, using IP to improve the competitive positioning of our clients.  Matt is a member of Phi Kappa Psi fraternity and a life member of Sigma Xi, scientific research society.  In addition to patents, Matt enjoyed a short stint as a rugby player and currently enjoys skiing, golf and gardening.
