F23 from my Location: California Very very long short when I was barely 18 my abusive father convinced me to buy his truck and promised me driving lessons only if I registered it to myself first. The truck was extremely broken, he stole the repair money and ultimately I never learned how to drive. Three years ago my great grandfather offered to put it in his name since it was stuck on his property any way, so I gave him the title to just try and leave it all behind. I was terribly uneducated on how anything ownership wise worked. Flash forward end of 2024 he begins to have a cognitive decline, the house/property my mom was to inherit because she lived there long term and he looked after her and us was suddenly in his nearly 40 years estranged children’s name and he passed away 7 weeks later in February 2025. By June we were all fully evicted and they took everything on that property as their own and insisted it was theirs now. The truck I fully believed was in Grandpas name was theirs to inherit. Yesterday I got a call, my fiance got a call, and I received numerous texts about police impound and how I owe 3,515 dollars for the truck being held and destroyed.
