Why would a RICO indictment be sealed even when every defendant is in custody? This is in relation to my neighbors murder. | Aug 3, 2026 | Sourced from Reddit
Location: South Florida My neighbor was a victim of a homicide 7 years ago. Although I thought his case went cold, in reality his death along with others were the focus of a state RICO investigation surrounding a murder for hire/robbery crew in in my county for the past 9 years. There were 4 individuals charged under the RICO and they are all listed as the defendants in the case and are in custody but their grand jury indictment is still sealed after 4 months (I am getting this from my counties clerks of courts site for official documents). The only reason I know my neighbor was a victim was because on the site the states notice of intent to seek the death penalty was available and listed names of all victims in the case (there were 8 or 9 murder victims in total) but the indictment is still sealed. I thought the only time indictments are still sealed are usually to prevent flight risk, and if suspects are not all in custody which in this all of them have been in custody 4 months ago. Would would be another reason for the indictment to still be sealed?
