Location: Florida A couple of months ago, my car was broken into while it was parked at my apartment. The police knocked on my door to let me know it had happened. At the time, I had just moved, and my car was full of unlabeled boxes. I honestly had no idea if anything had been stolen because I hadn’t unpacked yet. I told the responding officers multiple times that my car had been locked and that someone had forced entry to get inside. I also told them I would need to go through my boxes before I could tell if anything was missing. About a week later, after unpacking, I realized a couple thousand dollars worth of camera equipment and other items had been stolen. I called the police while the case was still open and reported everything. The person I spoke with told me they updated the case with the list of stolen items. Fast forward about a month. The case was closed, and I requested the police report because my insurance company needs it. When I got the report, I found two major issues: It says my vehicle was unlocked, even though I know for a fact it was locked and I told the officers that multiple times. It says no property was stolen, even though I called a week later and was told the stolen items had been added to the case. Location: Florida In October 2024, three deputy sheriffs showed up at our house to arrest my bf on five felonies that he had no involvement in or knowledge of. He was held with no bond for a total of 71 days before the charges were finally dropped due to no evidence. What happened: Someone used my bf’s ID (or just his name) to turn in thousands of dollars of stolen copper wire they stole off of city work trucks they burglarized the night before. See, when you turn in this much copper, scrap yards require a receipt from where it came from to prove it’s yours to sell, your signature and thumb print to verify your identity and video surveillance of the transaction (per Florida statute 538.18, Fla. Stat. 539.19(2)(h)(1-5) and Fla. Stat. 538.19(2)(j), these records must be kept in order for the scrap yard to legally operate their business) Long story short, the cops found the copper at the scrap yard the same day it was turned in, and the only documentation the manager had for the transaction was my bf’s name. No copy of his ID, no thumb print, no signature, and no video surveillance. They said the video had expired already and they couldn’t retrieve it. But they have to send this video to the FDAC to be in compliance with industry regulations and Florida statute and it’s stored there for 3 years. Location: Florida My sister was arrested for possession of meth in 2025 - Polk County and Criminal Mischief More than $1000 (it was actually arson, she set the bushes in front of her landlord's window on fire) but it got pled down) in 2026 - Marion County. I have been more or less no contact with her for about 20 years as she has Borderline Personality disorder, several other mental health issues and obviously substance abuse disorder. We grew up in a very physical and emotionally abusive home. I'm not going to go through the whole story as that is not the point here. My question is this. My husband and I agreed to allow her to move in with us in the Miami area as no one else would take her in and she would have been homeless. Her current probation states it is for her crimes in Marion County. Both crimes were felonies that would be "dismissed" I guess (I don't know the term) if the probation was successfully completed. She when I looked up the Polk County charges the probation still showed outstanding. So what happens when she completes the Marion County probation with us? I tried asking her new PO here in Miami-Dade but he would not give us any information. I asked my sister and she swears she didn't do anything and all charges were dropped which is clearly not true.
