They call me an immigration attorney, litigator, advocate – all with a healthy dose of spunk. I'm passionate about making the legal system work for those who need it most and the intersection of race, disability and labor justice with immigration law and policy.. I've got 25+ years of experience under my belt, tackling complex cases and arguing immigration law with courts, family and unsuspecting strangers on flights who make the mistake of asking me what I do for a living.. I started my career fighting for farmworkers, then dove headfirst into civil rights. When friends were unable to persuade me otherwise, I took my opinionated self to Idaho - a state without any free legal services for people facing deportation. That would change 19 years later.. Without a non-profit home, I built Andrade Legal into Idaho's leading immigration law firm. And because I’ve always believed that access to justice shouldn't be a luxury, I transitioned from private practice to establish Immigrant Justice Idaho and fill the gap in Idaho’s services for low income people caught up in the deportation process. Though the entity later closed under different leadership, I grew its' budget six-fold in less than five years and established a blueprint for how to deliver free services to a marginalized population in a rural, and hostile political climate. Cool.. Now, I'm back in private practice, sharing my expertise and strategies with lawyers and organizations in search of expert testimony and consultation, business consulting, technical training and writing.. When not thinking immigration, you'll find me cooking for friends and family, spoiling my dog (#chulathecutestchug), working in my garden of "tough love," and convincing like minded folks that Idaho's mountains and rivers provide the perfect backdrop (and fodder) for changing the world.. So, that's me – Maria E. Andrade: your immigration law gal with a sprinkle of wanderlust and a whole lot of heart. Let's connect and see how I can help your inner (and outer) legal advocate, and organization or business thrive.

I was born in Southern California but moved to Arkansas as a youth. I was the first in my family to attend college and graduated from the University of Notre Dame in 2002 with a Bachelors in Sociology and Psychology. After college, I spent seven years as a parole/probation agent. Through this experience, I saw the need for quality legal representation for immigrants. In 2013, I moved to Idaho with her husband and five children. After this move, I enrolled at Concordia University School of Law, graduating with a Juris Doctor in 2018. While in law school, I knew she wanted to be an immigration attorney and focused on immigration law, participating in the immigration clinic and Project LAURA (a nonprofit established to help unaccompanied youth in immigration proceedings). After graduation, I created a nonprofit immigration legal services program in Caldwell named Familias Unidas. After four years with this program, I decided it was time to start my own firm. I am a member of the Idaho State Bar and the American Immigration Lawyer Association. I am also Vice-Chair of the MOSAICS Public School Board of Directors. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my husband and five children, reading, and knitting.
