Courtney grew up in Louisville and graduated from Kentucky Country Day School. She earned her Bachelor of Science decree at the School of Foreign Service from Georgetown University and her Juris Doctor from the Brandeis School of Law at the University of Louisville. During law school, she served as Notes Editor for the Journal of Family Law (Law Review), on the Journal of Law and Education, and on the Moot Court Board, all while working full-time.. Courtney learned her legal skills under some of the country’s top attorneys at Arnold & Porter and Fulbright & Jaworski in Washington, D.C., and then at Barnett & Alagia, Alagia, Day, Marshall, Mintmire & Chauvin as well as Woodward, Hobson & Fulton in Louisville.. She started her career doing insurance defense with John M. Bush at the Bush Law Office and opened her legal practice with her brother in the fall of 2001.. Courtney concentrates her practice primarily in the areas of adoption and probate law. Courtney is a Guardian Ad Litem in private custody and divorce cases, and represents abused and neglected children weekly on the dependency, neglect and abuse docket in Jefferson Family Court Division Three.. Courtney is a member of the Brandeis Inn of Court, having been asked to join by Judge Paula Sherlock.  She has served on the Boards of Junior League of Louisville, Kentucky Country Day School, and the Shelby County Humane Society, where she still serves as legal counsel. Courtney has been involved with the Fillies, Inc., an organization that does volunteer work surrounding the Derby Festival. Courtney is a member of Greater Louisville Outstanding Women ("GLOW").  Courtney has done a great deal of work representing domestic violence victims pro bono through the Legal Aid Society and Center for Women and Families.

Courtney Preston Kellner, originally from Greenup County, KY, has made Louisville her home since 2011. Courtney is a graduate of Raceland-Worthington High School and is a proud alumna of both the University of Louisville and the University of Kentucky, where she obtained her Juris Doctor in 2010. She is a member of the Kentucky Bar Association, the Louisville Bar Association and the Women Lawyer’s Association.. Prior to graduating from law school, Courtney garnered experience in the areas of criminal, family, civil and appellate law working as a law clerk at the firm of McBrayer, McGinnis, Leslie and Kirkland, in addition to Franklin Circuit Court. Courtney is particularly proud of the time she spent as a clerk to Kentucky Supreme Court Justice Bill Cunningham.. Courtney began her legal career as a staff attorney with the Louisville Metro Public Defender where she made thousands of court appearances in all areas of our local judicial system, including district, circuit, and family courts. During her time as a Public Defender, Courtney focused her practice in juvenile law, criminal law, paternity and EPO/DVO contempt. Courtney provided representation on cases ranging from shoplifting to murder while serving as a Public Defender.. At Kellner Green, Courtney focuses her practice in family law with the majority of her representation focused on divorce and custody cases. Additionally, Courtney represents clients on dependency and paternity matters in family court. The rest of her practice is focused on representing clients in criminal and juvenile delinquency matters. In January 2015, Courtney was chosen to serve the Jefferson County Family Court term as a parent’s attorney on the dependency, abuse and neglect docket.. Outside of work, Courtney is an active member of River City United Methodist Church and serves as a member of the Launch Team. Additionally, she has been appointed to serve the Kentucky United Methodist Church as a member of the Justice Committee. Courtney is a member of Pi Beta Phi and serves on the Alumni Advisory Council as advisor on administrative and member development matters. Along with Abigail, Courtney enjoys devoting much of her free time to the various children’s organizations around Louisville, including volunteering with Kentucky Youth Advocates..
