Location: Maryland I work in Maryland and I’m an at-will employee. I have a good work record and positive reviews. A complete stranger doxxed my info and called my workplace multiple times to try to get me fired. And the workplace called the police on behalf of me. I ended up going to law enforcement because I felt like I needed to protect myself and my job. I filed criminal charges against my stalker for harassment and phone misuse, and there will be a trial in a month (State of MD vs. The stalker). I was open with my employer about what was going on from the beginning. I never tried to drag my coworkers into it, but the State later subpoenaed a couple of them as witnesses. Management seemed surprised, but they said they will help. They did say they wanted to protect me. My question is: can I contact the states attorney and quash their subpoena? I know I'm the victim. But I dont want to inconvenience my coworker and get them involved any further. When i filed the complaint my list of witnesses didnt even include their names, i only put down the police officers who helped me. Furthermore, could my job choose to discipline or fire me over this? If I were later fired because I contacted law enforcement, or because my coworkers ended up getting subpoenaed, could that potentially be wrongful termination even though Maryland is an at-will state? A month ago, I was crossing a two-lane highway (US 15) to enter a median area and turn onto the northbound side to get to my job interview. From my stopped position, there was a crest/dip, so I could only see to the point where the roadway rose. I pulled out when it was clear. When I was more than halfway across, a speeding Chevy truck came over/through that dip area, and we had a near miss. I gassed it to get the rest of the way into the median to avoid them crashing into my driver's side door. There was absolutely no contact between our vehicles. I also did not hear or feel an impact. I had watched the truck go past me in my mirror, and there was a big gap between our vehicles at that point, because I had already been parked completely inside the median. I waited a minute to make sure he was okay and watched him continue driving down the road. He didn't slow down or pull over at any point. After that, I drove across the median, waited for traffic, entered the other side, and went home. I said "screw it" to the interview since I wasn't going to deal with that every day. I was unfamiliar with the area and didn't realize I'd have to deal with that setup every day. Location: Maryland Hey everyone, I’m 23 and living in Maryland, and I’m in a really messy situation. I’m trying to get my credit right so I can finally lease my own apartment when I move out of state, but I just hit a massive wall. The Background: When I was 18, my aunt (who I currently live with) used my Social Security Number to open a residential utility account in my name without me knowing. I only found out about this two months ago when debt collectors started contacting my phone. Long story short, the account defaulted, got charged off, and was sold to a third-party collection agency. It's sitting there with an active balance of over $1,500, and it's completely tanking my FICO score. I could probably still get an apartment with my current score, but it'd probably be harder/higher deposit. Active utility collections are basically an automatic denial for most apartment communities around here, so I’m stressing out. Location: Maryland Hello everyone, I am currently renting a townhouse in Maryland and have been here since Janurary this year. When I first rented the place I had to do a virtual walk through for the move in inspection due to being across the country (military bs). Now that me and my wife have been here it has been a hell hole. The place is owned by a private owner, who uses the local property management company to handle the property. We have not met the owner. When we moved in I finally inspected everything myself, the railings going up the stairs are falling off the walls, the A/C doesn't reach the 3rd floor, we had water leaking through one spare rooms window and all they did was put some caulk inside to stop it from falling on the carpet (so where's the water going now?), the front doors handle is falling apart from the inside, I cant lock the door using the handle and the screws holding it in have no wood to screw into so they constantly tear into the door jam and i can only lock it by the dead bolt. The spigot outside didn't work at first. Come to find out it was a busted pipe in the wall, they fixed the pipe but left the holes in the drywall covered with plastic trash bags. Location: Maryland -Can I lose my home over this? I could really use some advice from anyone who’s dealt with an HOA, collections, or a similar situation. Unfortunately, I bought my townhouse in an HOA community. I wasn’t paying my HOA dues because I mistakenly believed they were included in my monthly mortgage payment. I know now that was my mistake, and I’m trying to make things right. The HOA turned my account over to a law firm for collections. The total balance was $3,523.73. They wanted me to pay all of the past-due balance, along with my ongoing monthly dues, over roughly three months. There’s just no way I can afford that while also paying my mortgage and my other monthly expenses. To show I was acting in good faith, I made a payment of $1,169.93 on July 15. After that, I emailed the attorney explaining that I’m the only income in my household and asked for a more manageable payment plan. I proposed paying the remaining $2,353.94 over six monthly payments of $392.32, then resuming my normal monthly HOA dues once I was caught up. The HOA and law firm has not responded, but I’m concerned about some of the terms. It says that if I default, they can record a lien against my property without additional notice, that my payments are applied to new assessments before the arrears, and that the agreement doesn’t stop any post-judgment collection that may already have been started.
