Firm: Dan Makled Law
23451 Ford Rd , Dearborn , Michigan 48128
Practice Areas: Car Accidents
After graduating from the University of Michigan, Dan Makled went into business with his father, who owned a number of small businesses in the city of Detroit. These businesses included car washes and collision shops among others. When Dan turned 29, after working in his family’s businesses for years, he began feeling as though the work he was doing was not fulfilling or gratifying in the way he wanted it to be. Dan knew he wanted to pursue a field that allowed him to feel as though he was serving a higher purpose. Dan decided he could make a difference in the legal field and returned to law school at thirty years old, graduating near the top of his class.. Since graduating from law school, Dan has helped many people who were victims of negligence; he loves what he does and considers going to law school the best decision of his life. One of Dan’s favorite parts of the legal process is the one-on-one conversations he has with his clients. Listening to a client’s story, Dan becomes a trusted family friend, rather than just a lawyer. He finds these relationships extremely gratifying, particularly when he secures a full, fair settlement that the insurance company had been delaying or denying.. The history of the Dan Makled Law Firm is to provide quality representation for all injury victims, combined with excellent customer service. Dan is never afraid to go to trial and prepares every case as though it will go to trial. Many law firms will accept a much lower settlement, just to avoid going to trial, but Dan thrives on trying a case for a client in front of a jury. Dan began his legal career working at a large insurance defense firm. He defended against claims to the insurance companies, quickly learning exactly how insurance companies think and act. He then started his own law firm where he now represents injury clients against big insurance companies.. Dan “stays in his lane,” in the sense that he does one thing only—personal injury claims. While many other firms “dabble” in many legal areas, Dan is laser-focused on personal injury, making him highly skilled, experienced, and knowledgeable about every aspect of personal injury claims. Dan’s experience working with adjusters and insurance companies on the defense side gives him a unique perspective that most personal injury attorneys simply do not have.. Believing passionately in the process, Dan offers real, solid representation at a time when you may be feeling anxious, frustrated, and overwhelmed. When you choose the Dan Makled Law Firm, you will never be handed over to a new associate. Your file will never be misplaced, and we will never miss an important date. Dan will take care of you and your case because he has tried many, many cases, winning multi-million-dollar settlements. Dan has won in the Court of Appeals and was a top law student, published in his law school’s law review.. On the personal side, Dan is equally passionate about spending time with his wife and children. With a son and daughter under the age of two, Dan spends most of his time outside the office engaged in family activities. Dan believes that once a client speaks to him, they should no longer feel confused about the process because he will take the time to comprehensively describe the process, letting each client know they can call or text him with any questions regarding their claim.

Firm: Goodman Acker P.C.
17000 West 10 Mile Road 2nd Floor , Southfield , Michigan 48075
Practice Areas: Natural Resources, Car Accidents
Barry J. Goodman has devoted his professional life to keeping courthouse doors open for victims seeking justice.. Always a tireless advocate for his own clients, Goodman sees his responsibility as an attorney in a broader sense as well. He has been very active politically, supporting candidates who share his belief in equal access to justice and taking leadership roles in professional organizations.. A native New Yorker, Goodman knew that he wanted to become a plaintiff’s lawyer from the time he was a child and his father, a postal employee, was injured in a traffic accident while on the job and left him dependent on federal workers compensation for the rest of his life.. “I didn’t think justice was provided to him, I didn’t want that to happen to others, and that was probably the impetus for me to go into law,” he says.. He received a scholarship to attend Bradley University, receiving his undergraduate degree there in 1974. He then attended Stetson University College of Law, got his J.D. there in 1977, and launched his legal career in Florida with a small general-practice firm where he stayed for two years before moving to Michigan.. He worked in two firms, focusing his practice solely on personal-injury cases. On Sunday mornings, he frequently played basketball at the Jewish Community Center, where he befriended another basketball-loving attorney, Gerald H. Acker. The two men began talking about forming their own practice and finally did so in 1993.. The firm’s practice has continued to concentrate on plaintiff’s personal-injury cases and over the years Goodman has recorded some impressive achievements. His biggest outcome occurred in 2001, when his client received a $14.5-million arbitration award to pay for medical and related costs stemming from injuries she received when faulty sub-surface wiring caused a manhole cover to fly up and strike a car in which she was a passenger. He’s also achieved several seven-figure settlements for injured clients.. In addition to his busy practice, Goodman has worked for a number of political candidates who support the civil-justice system. They include working on the finance committees of U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow and Congressman Gary Peters in his quest for the seat of U.S. Sen. Carl Levin, who is retiring in 2015.. He has served on the finance committees of Pres. Barack Obama and Democratic Presidential candidate John Kerry, served as a delegate to three Democratic National Conventions, and in 2012 was named to the Democratic National Committee.. He has received the Champion of Justice Award from the Michigan Association for Justice and the Wings of Justice Award from the Oakland County Bar Association. In addition, Goodman is a frequent lecturer at professional gatherings and is past chair of the Michigan Bar Association’s Negligence Section.. He is also a longtime board member of the Anti-Defamation League, serving that organization as an officer for many years.. Goodman is proud of his work in the broader political and public spheres, but considers his daily work on behalf of his clients to be the most fulfilling aspect of his life.. “I love coming to work every day,” he says. “I love representing folks whose lives have been disrupted due to the negligence of others and helping them to rebuild their lives, helping to give them back a sense of worth so that their future can again be bright. It’s very rewarding.”
