As a divorced father and having practiced divorce and family law for almost 35 years, I have an understandiing of the emotional dynamics of divorce and all family law disputes, as well as the interplay between the emotional, legal, and financial issues. The New Jersey Association of Professional Mediators has designated me as an Accredited Professional Mediator (APM). The Academy of Professional Family Mediators has designated me as a Certified Advanced Practitioner. I am often chosen by colleagues to mediate complex family law disputes involving custody and parenting time, support issues, distribution of assets, and others.. I am also a trained Collaborative Divorce attorney. Collaborative Divorce is a unique process for couples who would prefer not to engage in litigation through the court system but may not necesarily be amenable to mediation. Michael D. Fioretti, principal of The Law Offices of Michael D. Fioretti, was born in a lower middle class neighborhood in West Philadelphia. He began to work at the age of 12. He worked his way through college and law school by working at a grocery store. A 1967 graduate of St. Joseph’s University with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Political Science, Mr. Fioretti went on to earn his Juris Doctor Degree from University of Villanova Law School in 1972.. In 1968, as a second year law student at Villanova, Michael was drafted and inducted into the United States Military. He was trained to be a Vietnamese speaking interrogator. He served in Phu Bai in the Republic of Vietnam during the year 1970. He translated intercepted NVA and Vietcong communications. At the completion of his tour of duty in Vietnam, he returned to Villanova Law School.. Early in his legal career (1973 through 1981), Mr. Fioretti was a criminal defense attorney. He also practiced in the areas of administrative law, personal injury, wills and estate, real estate law and family law.. In 1975 he began to practice in family law. By 1977, he was selected as one of the best lawyers in America in the Stephen Naifeh and Gregory Smith book for his work as a family law lawyer in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. In 1979, he was chosen by Philadelphia Magazine as one of the “79 people to watch in 1979” for his work as a family law attorney. In 1980, he sat for and passed the New Jersey Bar examination.. Since 1980, he has practiced family law in the Pennsylvania counties of Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery and Philadelphia and Atlantic, Burlington, Camden, Cape May, Gloucester, and Mercer Counties in the State of New Jersey.. Commencing in 1976 and continuing until 1996, he was an instructor of Family Law and Criminal Law at the Mainline Paralegal Institute. In 1979, he authored the Divorce Rules and Practice Manual which was the precursor of the Pennsylvania Bar Institutes’ Five County Practice Manual.. Mr. Fioretti has lectured and been a presenter at the University of Pennsylvania Law School; Villanova University Law School; Delaware Law School at Widener; Villanova University; the Pennsylvania Bar Institute; the Camden County Bar Association; and the Burlington County Bar Association.. Mr. Fioretti has served on the Philadelphia Family Court Local Rules Committee and is a Member of the Philadelphia Bar Association Family Law Section. In 1990, he received Martindale-Hubbell’s AV Rating, a rating that continues until today. The “A” signifies the highest level of legal ability, while the “V” denotes “Very High” adherence to professional standards of conduct, ethics, reliability and diligence.
