I have been an attorney since 2003.  My practice areas include Criminal Defense, Personal Injury, Civil Rights, and a general civil practice.. I am best known for my high profile defense of MMA Fighter Joe Torrez when he was the victim of a violent home invasion on January 1, 2014.  Mr. Torrez came under scrutiny after one of the perpetrators died during the home invasion.  I was successful in preventing the State of New Mexico from charging Mr. Torrez.  This case made international headlines.  I have been involved in many other high profile cases, including the Columbus Gun Smuggling case and the Reese family gun case.. I have been a member of the Criminal Justice Act panel for the United States District Court of New Mexico since 2010 and have handled over 1,200 cases in federal court.  When one considers the hundreds of cases I have defended in New Mexico state courts, it is hard to find an attorney that has as much experience in this state when it comes to criminal defense.. I have tried more than 50 cases at that federal, state and local court level and I win most of my trials or at least obtain a better result than what had been offered by the prosecution before trial.. I represented the Las Cruces Sun News and New Mexico In Depth, two major New Mexico media organizations, to enforce a public records lawsuit involving an audit of New Mexico's mental health care system.. In addition to my criminal defense work, I practice personal injury, representing victims of negligence in car, truck and motorcycle accidents.  I have represented victims of vicious dog bites.  I have represented victims of bad police officers who abused their power and authority.. When you hire me, your problems become my problems.  Prior to becoming an attorney, I served in the United States Marine Corps as an infantryman and I carry the values I learned as a Marine with me today.  That means I do not give up and, most importantly, I do not like to lose.

Justice. It seems such a simple phrase, yet hidden underneath are complexities which humanity has debated since the time of Socrates. What does justice mean? By what moral codes do we define justice? Does justice even exist beyond the human imagination? Questions like these drove me while I was a student at New Mexico State University studying for my Philosophy degree. As a result of my studies, I became fascinated by the law as a form of applied justice. I knew then that my calling was to be an attorney.. After graduating from NMSU in 2006, I decided to attend law school at Western New England University. While there I had many opportunities to immerse myself in the practice of law. I was selected to be an extern for the Honorable Robert Field of the Housing Court, a court which had jurisdiction over all civil and criminal matters involving the use of residential property. I was also selected to be a student attorney in the Consumer Law Clinic, which allowed me to represent indigent clients who had been taken advantage of by businesses or landlords.. After I graduated law school in 2010, I decided I was sick of the cold weather in Massachusetts and moved back to sunny New Mexico. I took the NM Bar Exam that summer and was admitted to the New Mexico bar in September 2010.. In December 2011, I decided to become a prosecutor for the Third Judicial District Attorney’s Office, where I worked for about a year and a half. Thanks to my time at the District Attorney’s office, I learned how to handle to fast pace of the legal profession (my caseload comprised of an average of 150 active cases), how to construct a case to overcome a heavy burden of proof, and how to protect a case against the attacks of opposing counsel. While at the District Attorney’s office, I also had the opportunity to be part of the Magistrate Drug Court program, which is dedicated to providing treatment services for repeat DWI offenders.
