In my second year of college I took a Civil Liberties course, studying the constitutional rights that make our country great. The course was taught by a lawyer, and it convinced me that I'd enjoy a career in law. After graduating from George Washington University Law School in 1981, I took a job at the Legal Aid Office in Syracuse, where I was a trial attorney for five years. I handled mostly criminal trials, with some general civil work. We were a busy office, helping thousands of clients and litigating cases regularly.
